North Adams Awarded Federal Grant to Study Downtown Connections

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — North Adams is getting $750,000 in federal funding to rethink the Central Artery and consider ways to better connect the downtown to Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art.    The city partnered with Mass MoCA on the application last fall for the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act's Reconnecting Communities Pilot Program. The program is providing a $1 billion over the next five years for planning, construction and technical grants for communities affected by past infrastructure projects.    Mayor Jennifer Macksey told the Mass MoCA Commission on Monday that they had received word on Friday that the grant was being

Snow on the Way Monday Night

February may be been relatively mild — with even a couple 50 and 60-degree days — but Mother Nature is reminding us that winter is still in full force by sending a significant snowstorm our way.    The National Weather Service in Albany, N.Y., has declared a 24-hour winter storm warning starting Monday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m.   Expect heavy snow in Berkshire County with total accumulations of 4 to 9 inches. Snow will be heaviest between 10 p.m. Monday and 6 a.m. Tuesday. Haley Leads Trailblazers to Opening-Day Win

New Group Exhibition Opens at Gallery 51

The latest exhibition at MCLA's Gallery 51 features six artists in the group show "Layer/Build: Collage Explored" on view through April 7.     An opening reception will be held on March 3 from 5-7 p.m.    According to a press release:   Collage is the remixing of pre-existing pictures, forms, colors, and surfaces that are brought together to provoke new constellations of meanings. Adams Theater Owner Buys Topia Inn

ADAMS, Mass. — History is repeating itself at the Topia Inn under its new owners and operators Yina Moore, Kate Chen and Dimitrios Kolaxis.   Moore, owner of the Adams Theater, and the previous owners Nana Simopoulos and Caryn Heilman have taken similar paths in opening the Adams Theater and the inn.    Simopoulos and Heilman purchased the theater and opened it in 2005 as the Topia Arts Center, doing some of the initial restoration work. Two years later, they opened Topia Inn on Pleasant Street as an organic and environmentally conscious operation.    The new owners, as Pleasant St Holdings LLC, purchased the property on Jan. 18 for $600,000. MCLA Baseball Opens Year with Double-Header Sweep

NEW YORK -- Noel Medina went 4-for-5 with a double Saturday to lead the MCLA baseball team to an 11-10 win over Yeshiva in a season-opening double-header win for the Trailblazers.   Taconic grad Austin Rachiele went 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBIs in the win, which saw four MCLA pitchers combine to strike out 12.   In an 10-0 win, four Trailblazers struck out eight and allowed four hits.   Clarence Givhans went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles.   MCLA (2-0) is off until it goes to Florida for eight games starting March 10.

The Hoosac Valley and Wahconah girls basketball teams each came away with victories in all-Berkshire Couty finals on Western Mass tournament Championship Saturday

The day ended with the Drury boys giving Berkshire County a third championship on the day.

Healey has ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff at all state buildings.   Olver represented the 1st Massachusetts District for 22 years until his retirement in 2012.
