Drury To Perform 'Matilda the Musical'

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Drury Stage Company in conjunction with the Drury Music Department will perform Roald Dahl's "Matilda the Musical."   Performances will be held on Friday, March 31 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 1 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.   All performances will take place in the Drury High School auditorium, 1130 South Church Street in North Adams. Drury High Getting Air Quality Sensors

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Drury High School will be getting new sensors on its heating and ventilation system.    The funding comes from a federal Improving Ventilation and Air Quality in Public School Buildings Grant of $315,615.   "We were actually identified as one of 141 school districts in Massachusetts that was eligible for this award," said Business Administrator Nancy Rauscher at Tuesday's School Committee meeting, explaining that the criteria is base in part on the city's economic profile, health disparities and COVID-19 impact.    Rauscher and Carrie Burnett, the district's grants, special projects and procurement officer, said it

North Adams Public Safety Looks to Tighten Up Taxi Regs

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Police could have greater sway over who can have a taxi driver's license in the city of North Adams.    The Public Safety Committee has been reviewing the taxi ordinance at the behest of the mayor and Police Department after a recent hearing on violations pointed to the city's limitations in regulating cab companies. The committee is looking into updating language and a process for dealing with potential violations.    In its second full meeting last week, the committee heard from Police Lt. Three Hospitalized After Car Accident On Curran Highway

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Police are investigating a three-car motor vehicle accident that took place near Hodges Cross Road that left three injured.    At approximately 10:41 a.m. Friday morning, North Adams dispatch received multiple calls reporting an accident in the southbound lane of the Curran Highway at the intersection commonly used as the southern entrance to Walmart.   Callers stated that at least one person was trapped in their car, and it's engine compartment was on fire.   Bystanders were able to help extract the person from the car. Another Snow Storm To Hit The Berkshires This Weekend

The Berkshires are expected to be hit by snow again this week with 5 to 10 inches expected Friday, March 3 night through Saturday, March 4   The National Weather Service has released a Winter Storm Warning starting March 3 at 6:00 p.m. until March 4 at 7:00 p.m.   Heavy snow is expected in Northern Berkshire County. Snow rates may exceed one inch per hour at times Friday night.   Accuweather predicts that snowfall will begin on 9:00 p.m. Friday and end at the same time Saturday. Northern Berkshire Veteran Services Holds March Food Drive

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — For the month of March, residents can do their part to support local veterans by donating to the veterans' food pantry.   The pantry, which keeps nonperishable food on hand for veterans in need, also provides personal care items and some clothing. It was established in the Veteran Services Office in City Hall some years ago.    "Oh, there's always a need," Director of Veteran Services Stephen Roy said. Berkshire Harm Reduction Implementing Narcan Boxes in Pittsfield

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Hoping to save lives from opioid overdose, Berkshire Harm Reduction is bringing Narcan to the streets.   Program Manager Sarah DeJesus updated the Board of Health on Wednesday on the organization's efforts to place Narcan or Naloxone boxes in public places that are readily available for use.   The medicine, which is administered nasally, blocks opiate receptors in the nervous system.   "One of the recent initiatives that we became involved in is through the HEALing Communities Study, and it has a very ambitious goal to reduce overdose deaths by 40 percent in the next 18 months that the program is in existence," DeJesus said about

Registration for Summer Courses at MCLA Now Available

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) announced that registration for summer class sessions is now open.    Registration is open to MCLA students, interested community members, high school students, those pursuing a master's degree, and Berkshires-based college students who wish to earn credits toward their degree from another institution.    MCLA is offering two summer sessions, held in North Adams, Pittsfield, and online.
