 FLORIDA, Mass. — Twenty Abbott Memorial School students participated in the Berkshire Robotics Challenge marking the school's return to the competition. Students from Grades 3 through 7participated in the competition on Saturday, March 18, at Taconic High School. "For the students, it is pure application-based learning. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Mohawk Forest Apartments, located at 201 Mohawk Forest Boulevard in North Adams, will be hosting a COVID vaccine clinic in their community room from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 31, 2023. This clinic is open to the public as well as to residents of Mohawk Forest. Individuals 6 months of age and older are eligible to participate. First, second, and booster shots will be available. All Massachusetts residents who gets vaccinated at this clinic will receive a $75 gift card while supplies last. The 10th class of the county girls basketball Hall of Fame included not one but two parent-child combinations among the nine inductees. "My family is famous today," Brett Steinman quipped.  BENNINGTON, Vt. — The new owner of Apple Barn and Bake Shop Sarah Albright has fond memories of visiting the shop in the fall with her parents — little did she know at the time one day it would be hers. Former owner Lia Diamond announced on Facebook last April that she was not re-opening the seasonal store. Hundreds of people flocked to the Facebook post expressing their love for the Apple Barn's baked goods, products, and experience that it had provided to them and their families. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Police Chief Jason Wood has been relieved of his duties and will leave the department as of June 30. The 20-year veteran of the force was put on paid administrative leave earlier this month for what was described as a "non-criminal" matter that was being investigated by the city's legal team.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts is considering turning the vacant Berkshire Towers dorm into a temporary homeless shelter. President James Birge said on Friday that the college is considering a partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development that would supply needed housing for 50 homeless families. "I look at the mission of the institution, and we talk about educating students to be responsible citizens," Birge said. "I think this models that mission." The Big Y Community Bag Program, which launched in January 2019, is a reusable bag program that facilitates community support.  CLARKSBURG, Mass. — The Briggsville Water District is hoping to have the town lien delinquent water bills to property taxes. "We do that routinely for North Adams," said Carl McKinney, town administrator, who spoke to the Select Board on Wednesday as a member of the district's board of commissioners. "We have a contract that is part of our water agreement with North Adams but we don't have an agreement with the Briggsville Water District." NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Airport Commission will see a $163,000 increase to the North East Hangar renovation project. Engineer Peter Enzien gave his report to the commission Tuesday and noted that the hangar project will be a little more costly than originally anticipated with a new estimate of $642,000. "I think we need a new estimator," Commissioner William Diamond said. "That is what I think." Originally the rehabilitation of the city-owned hangar at Harriman & West Airport was estimated to cost $350,000. But the original bid actually came in at $479,000.
