NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The pandemic last year forced the cancellation of the long-running exchange between baseball teams in the city and Boston.    But the LaFesta Baseball Exchange is back, marking its 30th year of forging connections between the state's smallest city and Boston's historic North End.    "It's 30 years this year. We've played 104 games. Over 1,000 kids have gone through the program," said founder George Canales.    The program grew out of a conversation with John Romano, coordinator of the North End Athletic Association. From one end of New England to the other and right in the middle of Berkshire County, there is a full weekend of youth sports on tap.   For travel softball teams, the place to be is Dalton, where the 14th annual Dalton CRA Invitational runs from Friday to Sunday at Pine Grove Park.   Sixteen teams in four age groups will play 26 games starting with Friday's openers in the 14-and-under division (5:15 p.m.) and the 10U (6 p.m.).   On Saturday morning, the 12U and 16U teams join the action.   The oldest age group features the biggest field with the Adams-Cheshire-Savoy Swat, Greylock Thunder and Berkshire Liberty facing teams from New York's Capital

KEENE, N.H. -- The Keene Swamp Bats jumped out to a 5-0 lead en route to a 9-3 win over the North Adams SteepleCats on Wednesday night.   Troy Shreffler doubled and drove in three runs for Keene (20-11).   Braden Golinski tripled for one of two North Adams hits.   Four different pitchers combined on the win for Keene.   North Adams (15-13-2) travels to Winnipesaukee on Thursday.

LYNN, Mass. -- Charles Middleton went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs to lead the North Adams SteepleCats to a 10-3 win over the North Shore Navigators and a split of their double-header on Tuesday.   North Shore (14-4-2) won the opener, 6-2, after breaking the game open with four runs in the fifth.   In the nightcap, Middleton led an 11-hit North Adams attack that also saw Justin Grech go 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.   Peyton Wilson struck out four in six innings of work to earn the win on the mound. Monument Mountain graduate Jared Henry provided one inning of hitless relief.   North Adams (15-12-2) is at Keene on Wednesday.

In late May, wildlife managers in Washington D.C., Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Kentucky began receiving reports of sick and dying birds with eye swelling and crusty discharge, as well as neurological signs.
