BOSTON — In honor of Veteran's Day, the Baker-Polito Administration will once again waive parking fees at all Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) state parks throughout the state on Thursday, November 11, 2021.    Additionally, interpretive programming will also be offered at state parks during the upcoming holiday weekend. Furthermore, visitors are encouraged to participate in self-guided walks and hikes within the state parks system, where there are numerous veterans memorials, military forts, and other notable sites. The fee waiver falls in line with a National Park Service initiative that also provides free admission at federal parks nationwide on

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The visiting Castleton State men's basketball team used an explosive second half to pull away late from the MCLA Trailblazers and earn a 94-82 win on opening night for both teams.   The Spartans were led by Joe Alamprese's team best 19 point night.   The Trailblazers led 37-34 at halftime as both sides returned to the court after lenghty layoffs due to the ongoing pandemic. WORCESTER, Mass. -- The top-seeded Worcester State volleyball team dropped the first set but rallied past the fourth-seeded MCLA Trailblazers, 3-1, Thursday in the MASCAC semifinals.   The Lancers (11-15) advance to the conference championship on Saturday, when they'll host No. 3 Framingham State, a 3-2 winner over Westfield State in the semi-finals.   MCLA (12-12) took the opening set 25-23 and looked well on their way to jumping out to a 2-0 lead, but the Lancers rallied from an 11-4 deficit in the second set with a 13-1 run and never looked back, taking the second 25-17 before winning 25-22 in each of the last two games.   Chloe Garber and Kelly Moczulski led the MCLA

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. -- The MCLA men's soccer team received second half goals from Colin Rousseau and Cola Bean while goalkeeper Sam Edge pitched a shutout to lead the Trailblazers past Mass  Maritime 2-0 Tuesday evening in the MASCAC quarterfinal round.   The fifth-seeded Trailblazers (5-10-1) advance to the MASCAC semifinal round on Friday night against top seeded Salem State.   The game began as the regular season match between these two teams ended, chippy and with a lot of midfield play. FITCHBURG, Mass. -- The MCLA women's cross country team finished up its season Saturday, running in the 2021 MASCAC Championships hosted by Fitchburg State University.   The Trailblazers finished seventh in the meet.  Westfield State repeated as conference champions.   Domenica Gomez led MCLA's runners covering the course in 31:11 for a 40th place finish. LANESBOROUGH, Mass. -- Michael Bondini ran for 49 yards Sunday to lead the Lanesborough Tiger-Saints to a 14-and-under youth football team to a 32-0 win over the North Adams Patriots.   Brady Auger ran for a 40-yard touchdown, and Evan Roccabruna ran for 30 yards and a score for Lanesborough, which got 39 yards onthe ground from Xavier Southard.   North Adams' Travon Moore ran for 32 yards, and Zane Kaley gained 24 yards.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Salem State's Jasmine Moran scored the game's only goal in overtime to lift the visiting Vikings to a hard fought 1-0 win over MCLA at Shewcraft Field Saturday afternoon.   Prior to the contest, MCLA (0-11-1, 0-5-1 MASCAC) honored their four seniors as part of Senior Day.  Honored prior to kickoff were Jess Halverson, Haley Rode, Jackie Murphy, and Maddie Gibney.   Both teams had some quality chances throughout the game but nobody could find the back of the net. PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The Pittsfield Parks Speed Skating Club will begin skating Oct. 31 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club on Melville Street.   Beginners, people interested in good exercise and those interested in racing will join people of all ages for this fun activity.   The club offers a free trial session.
