WALTHAM, Mass. -- The English national men's team was not the only one disappointed in corner kicks on Sunday afternoon.   The West girls soccer team, with three Berkshire County high school students, lost a 5-4 PK shootout to the Northeast on Sunday in the gold medal game of the Bay State Games.   The West team includes Drury students Samantha Kogut and Kayla McGrath and Lenox's Molly Knight.   West scored the game's first goal in the first five minutes, and stayed that way until the final sequence of regulation, when Northeast converted a corner kick to tie it.   West went 2-1 in pool play with only a 3-2 loss to Northeast in the loss column. GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. -- The Pittsfield American League and Dalton-Hinsdale have advanced to the title game of the Don Gleason District 1 Little League 8-to-10-year-old championships at Olympian Meadows.   The Pittsfield AL earned the top seed after a four-team round-robin with a record of 3-0. It will face Dalton-Hinsdale (2-1) on Saturday at 2 p.m. for the title.   On Tuesday, Dalton-Hinsdale earned its spot in the finals with a 4-2 win over the Pittsfield National League, which finished 0-3 in the round robin. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Mason Hull hit a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh Sunday to lead the North Adams SteepleCats to a 1-0 win over Vermont at Joe Wolfe Field.   Hull crushed a 1-1 pitch with one out over the fence to provide the game's only offense.   Kaleb Sophy earned the win on the mound with four innings of two-hit relief of starter Landon Willeman. SANFORD, Maine -- The North Adams SteepleCats Friday split a road double-header against the Mainers.   In the opener, Jon Kozarian went 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored a run in a 4-1 win.   Samuel Bennett threw three innings of one-hit relief to earn the win on the mound.   In the nightcap, the Mainers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second and went on to a 9-3 win.   Turner Grau went 2-for-3 and drove in a run for the SteepleCats. Peyton Wilson was tagged with the loss after allowing five runs in four innings on the mound.   North Adams (9-8-2) is home on Sunday for the annual Fourth of July game at Joe Wolfe Field. Ryan Shook threw three shutout innings Sunday to lead the Housatonic River Monsters to a 4-2 win over the Great Barrington Millers in the Berkshire Adult Baseball League.   Shook helped his cause with a double and a run batted in at the plate. Jake Simon also drove in a run for Housatonic.   Tyler Spofford went 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Spencer Cookson doubled in a run for Great Barrington.   Housatonic improved to 5-4 this summer.   Carter Matthews went 4-for-4, and Hunter Potash was 3-for-4 at the plate to lead BBA.   Christian Robitaille was 2-for-3 with three RBIs for BBA, which got eight strikeouts over four innings from pitcher Joe Gratton.   Jake Hall

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Charles Middleton hit a grand slam to lead the North Adams SteepleCats to an 8-3 win over the North Shore Navigators on Saturday.   Thomas Gavello also homered for North Adams (7-7-2) which scored eight runs on just six hits. It scored seven of those runs in the fifth inning to erase a 2-0 deficit.   Richard Alexy earned the win on the mound with two innings of scoreless relief.
