Letter: Vote to Re-Elect Macksey as MayorLetter to the Editor, 01:00PM / Thursday, October 30, 2025
To the Editor: It's that time when voters will again get to make their choice for mayor. This year Scott Berglund is challenging Mayor Jennifer Macksey. Other than being a political newcomer and a fairly new resident to the city, little is known about Mr. Berglund. I know he's twice defeated cancer and while I sincerely congratulate him on beating the beast, it is not a credential for overseeing a municipality with a $50-plus million budget. He says if elected there will be "transparency" in his administration. Ironically, his campaign has been anything but transparent. Not once, even in the mayoral debate, did he cite any qualifications to be mayor. What experience

Cinema Ephemera: The Human Machine| 10:56AM / Wednesday, October 29, 2025
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Porches' Studio 9 will show "The Human Machine," the first installment of a new film series presented by Cinema Ephemera. The screening will take place on Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Rich Remsberg and Shawn Rosenheim have curated an evening of ephemeral films: vintage classroom instruction, industrial animations, forgotten children's TV shows, declassified military training films, religious movies, scraps of stock footage, and a bunch of weird science stuff. "These are films that were not necessarily meant to last beyond their original showings," said Remsberg. "They 0 Comments Read More >> |

Route 2 traffic is being detoured to Route 8, Route 116 and Route 112. Local traffic can seek alternate routes. Temporary signs and variable message boards are being deployed to advise drivers to seek alternate routes. Letter: If Oleskiewicz & Sapienza Won't Stick Up For Us, Why Should We Vote for Them?Letter to the Editor, 02:10PM / Tuesday, October 28, 2025
To the Editor: Elections in a small city can often feel like neighbors coming together to create a government that represents their hopes and dreams for their home community. Early voting has begun, and on Nov. 4, we will find ourselves once again awaiting the results. Several incumbents and newcomers have shown heart, passion, and willingness to step up, above and beyond, to face the current and future challenges our community is facing. Unfortunately, others have shown a level of apathy or cowardice that is not only holding us back, it is making us less safe. This past March, North Adams City Council voted on a resolution to be a sanctuary city for trans and gender expansive people.

Letter: Mayor Macksey Has My Vote on Nov. 4Letter to the Editor, 02:04PM / Tuesday, October 28, 2025
To the Editor: As a North Adams city councilor, business owner, and community organizer, I know how essential strong, constructive, and collaborative leadership is for our city's future. My goals on the City Council are focused on setting North Adams up for long-term success. In pursuing these goals, I've collaborated extensively with Mayor Jennifer Macksey, and I believe we share a similar purpose. Mayor Macksey has been a constructive, hard-working, and deeply caring partner. Whenever I see her around town, she greets people with warmth and a smile. While we don't always see eye to eye, I have faith in her leadership and her commitment to working with me and other community

Letter: Jennifer Macksey for Mayor of North AdamsLetter to the Editor, 05:00PM / Monday, October 27, 2025
To the Editor: Jennifer Macksey was born in North Adams and is a lifelong resident. She doesn't need to learn the culture and nuance that is North Adams. North Adams is in her DNA. She is a product of the North Adams Public Schools and a graduate of Drury High School. Her B.A. in accounting certainly prepares her to make sure the balance sheets of North Adams add up. The jobs she's held have all been leadership jobs, decision-making jobs which require seeing the big picture as well as understanding the nuts-and-bolts operation of complex institutions. In North Adams, resources are hard to come by and every penny counts. Hard decisions need to be made apportioning what money we

Letter: North Adams Not Addressing Current Drought EmergencyLetter to the Editor, 05:00PM / Monday, October 27, 2025
To the Editor: About a week ago, I decided to take a walk along the North Adams reservoir. I'm sure it's been at least a year since I had last done so. What I discovered shocked and amazed me: the reservoir is at most about two-thirds full. Given the extent of the drought we've experienced in Massachusetts, I shouldn't have been surprised. What did surprise me is that we haven't heard a word from City Hall about the possibility of a water shortage and measures we might take to conserve our water supply. When I did some research, I found that the Adams Fire District posted a "State Declaration" about the level 2 drought we are experiencing and the water-use

North Adams Farm Stand Using Vending Machine to Sell EggsBy Breanna Steele, iBerkshires Staff 05:35AM / Monday, October 27, 2025
Holly Zabriskie got chickens a few years ago as a passion project to provide her family with eggs, only to find she had more than she needed. She began selling them as West Hen Farmstand. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A former hospital vending machine is now dispensing eggs by the half dozen. Holly Zabriskie said the idea for the machine came after people were stealing from her farm stand on West Main Street. "Unfortunately, we get a lot of foot traffic here, and people were finding ways to steal out of the pay box," she said. "During the winter, I have a lot of time on my hands. So I was trying to think of what would be a great way that I could still 0 Comments Read More >> |
