 NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The kindergartners in Shealee Cooke's classroom at Brayton Elementary School share their answers here to "How Do You Make a Thanksgiving Turkey." They were pretty sure on where you get turkeys (at a store) and nearly unanimous on where you cook it (in an oven, though Gram's house makes a lot of sense) and what to do when it's done — eat it. But they differed on temperatures (we like "hot") and the times ranged from 22 seconds to 21 days. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Big Y's annual Sack Hunger campaign provides funds for the four food banks within their two-state marketing area. In turn, these food banks support local soup kitchens, food pantries, senior food programs, day care centers and many others through 2100-member agencies that they assist every day. Their goal is to maximize access to nutritious food and other resources to help ensure food security for those at risk of hunger. These four food banks are The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts, Worcester County Food Bank, Greater Boston Food Bank and Connecticut Food Share.  CLARKSBURG, Mass. — The Select Board on Monday voted to post the town administrator position in hopes of having a new leader in place by early next year. The board had entered in executive session with Carl McKinney last week for negotiations on a three-year contract. That apparently turned into an offer for a one-year extension that McKinney refused. He was not at Monday's meeting. Department heads and members of other boards and committee attended the meeting with concerns of how the negotiation had played out — and how the town would move forward with the grants and projects underway. New exercise bikes at the recreation center along with new flooring. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Splashing and squealing signaled the reopening of the pool Thursday at the former YMCA after nearly two dry years. Now dubbed the North Adams Recreation Center, the building attached to Brayton Elementary School has been scrubbed clean and opened last month for some activities. CLARKSBURG, Mass. — The Select Board has agreed to join a collaborative effort for drug prevention and harm reduction. The new coalition will hire a North County community coordinator who will be headquartered on the North Adams Regional Hospital campus and who oversee allocations for harm reduction, education and prevention efforts. Berkshire Health Systems has also committed about $120,000 over the next five years. Clarksburg, one of the first communities to sign on to the opioid lawsuit filed by a consortium of states several years ago, has so far received payouts of $23,594.78.  Mount Greylock Regional School alumna Kate Swann and the Williams College women's cross country team are in Terre Haute, Ind., Saturday morning to compete at the NCAA Division III Championship. Williams crushed the field at the 24-team regional championship in New London, Conn., to qualify for the national championship. On Nov. 16 at the Mideast Regional, Williams finished with 59 points, well ahead of runner-up Rensselaer Polytechnic, which collected 110 points. Swann, a junior, was the second Williams runner across the finish line, finishing 10th overall with a time of 21 minutes, 36 seconds on the 6-kilometer course. As mentioned in a letter sent to city residents, the city is undergoing a lead pipe survey. Since then, some residents have been contacted by scammers claiming to be part of the survey and looking for financial information. Officials emphasized that the survey is free, and the city is not making phone calls to residents at this time. Residents are urged not to share financial details over the phone. CLARKSBURG, Mass. — Clarksburg School could be in line for more grants but next year's budget is expected to be tight. "I think two potential big impacts for the FY26 budget are the lack of school choice, we're going to have more clarification on that number as soon as we can ... and then also the fact that we talked about before, the Student Opportunity Act," said Superintendent John Franzoni.
