North Adams Navigators Honored for Enrolling Residents In Affordable Health Plans

BOSTON — The Massachusetts Health Connector joined lawmakers at the State House to recognize representatives from community Navigator organizations, including Ecu-Health Care of North Adams, for their work to enroll residents into affordable Health Connector plans in advance of the upcoming deadline for Open Enrollment, which is Jan. 23.   Free, local help is available in-person and in multiple languages for residents applying for a plan with Ecu-Health Care, which serves Northern Berkshire, and other Navigator organizations across the commonwealth.   "Massachusetts requires everyone to have health insurance, so if you don’t have coverage, now is the time to

Greylock School Cost Estimates, Spec Plans Being Readied for MSBA

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Design documents for the $65 million Greylock School project, including cost estimates, are expected to be submitted to the Massachusetts School Building Authority by the end of this month.    One cost estimate by as independent estimator came in this week and the second is expected.     Jesse Saylor, of TSKP Studio, the school's designer, found the first estimate "encouraging."   "The estimate that we've received is actually a little bit under where we were at schematic design," he said. McCann Tech Hockey Program Hosting Alumni Game

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The North County high school hockey cooperative program is inviting former players to participate in the fourth annual alumni game on Sunday, Feb. 23.   The game will be played at 4 p.m. at the Peter W. Foote Vietnam Veterans Memorial Rink.   The co-op, currently hosted by McCann Tech, also includes players from Hoosac Valley, Mount Greylock and Drury.   Tickets to the event are $10 and include the opportunity to skate with the players after the contest.   The cost for players is $40. California Artist to Fund New MCLA Arts Learning Center

President James Birge made the announcement at the opening breakfast for the second semester in the Amsler Campus Center.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — MCLA is significantly enhancing its arts curriculum by developing a new teaching center through a gift from artist and author Carolyn Mary Campagna Kleefeld.   Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts President James Birge informed Tuesday's opening breakfast for the second semester that Campagna Kleefeld will fund the construction of the center on Porter Street and fund its operation for three years. Weather Alert: Berkshires Getting Snow, Frigid Temperatures

The Berkshires is line for 6 to 8 inches of snow to fall across the region beginning Sunday afternoon and into Tuesday morning.   This will be followed by another blast of Arctic air that will sent temperatures plummeting.    All of Massachusetts, Southern Vermont, eastern New York and Connecticut are under storm warnings or advisories. A winter storm warning is in effect for the Berkshires beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday to 7 a.m. Monday.   Snowfall rates of up to an inch an hour is expected by early Sunday evening.    Winter parking rules are already in effect and communities including North Adams have instituted a snow emergency, which means no parking on the

Train Car Uncoupling Closes Ashton Avenue in North Adams

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Ashton Avenue was closed for nearly two hours on Saturday after one of the cars on a westbound train uncoupled.    The track runs along the north side of the Hoosac River and crosses Ashton Avenue near the Blackinton Mill.   Firefighters, Northern Berkshire EMS and North Adams and Williamstown Police responded to the scene. Clarksburg Officials Debate Need for School Repairs, Renovations
