GREENFIELD, Mass. – Hunter Donahue went 2-for-3 with a home run, a triple and three RBIs Tuesday to lead the Greenfield Post 81 Juniors to a 12-7 over North Adams Post 125 in American Legion Baseball. Connor Bergeron had two doubles in an 11-hit attack for Greenfield. Carson Dix went 2-for-3 with an RBI for North Adams, which got a double from Emery Rotter. BOSTON — The state Department of Public Health said Tuesday that it had confirmed the first case of West Nile virus in an animal this year. A goat was exposed to WNV in Lunenburg in Worcester County. The towns of Lunenburg, Leominster, Shirley, and Fitchburg are being raised to moderate risk. "With this evidence of an animal infected with West Nile virus, we know that there are the right conditions and enough disease circulating to result in a human infection," said Public Health Commissioner Dr. Robbie Goldstein. Nelphie Lopez was 2-for-5 with a double in a 12-hit attack for North Adams. SteepleCats starting pitcher Tristan Helmick struck out six and allowed one hit and no runs in six innings of work but did not factor into the decision. CLARKSBURG, Mass. — Enjoy free programs at this summer at Clarksburg State Park and meet Smokey the Bear on Saturday. The state park is located at 1199 Middle Road; a day-use parking fee applies. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — An after-school program that enhances students' school day learning is at risk due to actions of the Trump administration. The Department of Education notified states that it is withholding more than $6 billion in federal grants for K-12 education. That includes $108 million for schools in Massachusetts. And, the North Adams Public Schools are at risk for losing some of the $740,000 in grants it expects to gets under the federal Title I, Title II and Title IV programs.  FITCHBURG, Mass. — Nolan Buck proudly served his country in the Marine Corps from 2015 to 2019 as a corporal. Growing up in Springfield, he joined the Marines' Early Entry Program at 16 years of age. "I was the only person in my family to have ever joined the military," he said. Suzy Aja Burba, who was called to pastor by First Congregational Church in May, feels at home in both the city and the church. BELCHERTOWN, Mass. – The North Adams Post 125 Juniors split an American Legion Baseball double-header at Belchertown by matching 9-8 scores. In the first game, North Adams built a 9-2 lead and held on after the hosts scored four in the fifth and two in the seventh. Carson Dix went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Maddox Cooke was 2-for-4 with three RBIs in the opener.
