Berkshire Pride Announces Rainbow Guitar Raffle Fundraiser

NORTH ADAMS, Mass.— Berkshire Pride has launched a fundraising raffle featuring a handcrafted acoustic rainbow guitar.

The instrument was created and donated by Nick Lenski of Brier Road Guitars and Berkshire Stringed Instruments, located in North Adams.

The rainbow design of the guitar symbolizes inclusion and diversity within the LGBTQ+ community, and its creation represents local artistry.

First Congregational Church North Adams Appoints New Pastor

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The First Congregational Church North Adams (FCCNA) has announced the selection of the Reverend Suzy Aja Burba as its new pastor, following a unanimous vote by the congregation.    Reverend Burba is currently the minister of Pilgrim Congregational Church in Weymouth.   Reverend Burba obtained a Master's Degree in Divinity and a Certificate in Pastoral Care from Andover Newton Theological School in 2018 and was ordained in January 2021. Her stated professional interests include pulpit ministry and attending to the spiritual needs of congregants. Family Movement Workshop Scheduled at Mass MoCA

Clarksburg Total Budget for FY26 Up 5.6%

CLARKSBURG, Mass. — The annual town meeting will be presented a total budget for fiscal 2026 of $5,386,082, up $286,598 or 5.6 percent over this year.    The town's operating budget at $1,862,872, up $94,217 or 5 percent, over this year. The assessment of $437,567 to McCann Technical School is up $74,348, based on enrollment, and the $3,085,643 Clarksburg School budget is up $118,233, or just under 4 percent.   A joint meeting of the School Committee, Select Board and Finance Committee endorsed the school budget on Wednesday. The Select Board and Finance Committee met again on Thursday for a final review of the town budget and annual warrant.    Town

Governor Announces Funding to Enhance Transit in Berkshire County

BOSTON — The Healey-Driscoll Administration today announced a portion of the over $14.8 million awarded through MassDOT's Fiscal Year 2025 Community Transit Grant Program (CTGP) will benefit Berkshire County.   The Berkshire Regional Transit Authority was awarded funding for two fully accessible vehicles, and the South County Connector received funding for one fully accessible vehicle. Astronaut Suni Williams Meets With Boston Students at State House

BOSTON — Gov. Maura Healey hosted a meet-and-greet Thursday at the State House with astronaut Sunita "Suni" Williams and local students.   Williams, a retired Navy officer, is from Needham. Early Morning North Adams Apartment Fire Forces Families to Flee

River Street was shut down from Houghton to Harris.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A structure fire in the middle of the night Saturday forced at least three families from their homes on River Street.    The blaze was reported shortly before 2:30 a.m. at 313 River St., but was in the back apartment facing Loftus Street of a multi-unit building at 307-309 River.    "Crews made a pretty good, swift attack, knocked it down right away. Obviously, it had a little bit of a jump on us," said Fire Chief Brent Lefebvre. 'Poetry in Motion' Event to Celebrate Hoosic River Watershed

NORTH ADAMS, Mass.— A poetry event titled "Poetry in Motion," celebrating the Hoosic River Watershed, will take place on Thursday, May 22, at 4:30 p.m. Participants will meet at the Natural Bridge State Park parking area, outside the gate.

The event will involve a walk from the Hudson Brook - North Branch confluence, where attendees can find inspiration for poetry. Writing prompts will be provided. There will be an opportunity for participants to share their poems, phrases, or other creative expressions inspired by the rivers. The program is scheduled to last for 1.5 hours.

Clarksburg School Cuts $39K More Out of Budget

CLARKSBURG, Mass. — The school budget for fiscal 2026 has been reduced by another $39,000, bringing the percentage increase down to 3.98 percent. At the same time, the tuition proposed for prekindergarten was lifted.   The budget approved by the Finance Committee and Select Board at Wednesday's joint meeting with the School Committee has a bottom line of $3,085,643, a $118,233 increase over this year.   The School Committee opened up five school-choice slots in first grade, which will offset the loss of an estimated $30,000 in preschool tuition.
