PIttsfield Resident Walking to Raise Money for Jimmy Fund

BOSTON -- Pittsfield resident Pam Malumphy, along with thousands of other walkers, will participate in the Boston Marathon Jimm Fund Walk on Sunday, Oct. 6.   The annual event unites the community to raise funds to support all forms of adult and pediatric care and research at the nation’s premier cancer center, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The Jimmy Fund Walk has raised more than $176 million for Dana-Farber in its 35-year history, raising a record-breaking $9.4 million in 2023.   "For 35 years, the Jimmy Fund Walk has continuously supported lifesaving research and cancer care at Dana-Farber," Jimmy Fund Assistant Vice President of Event Fund-Raising Caitlyn Fink

Great Barrington's Davis Wins House Primary

Leigh Davis will run on the Democratic party line in November to fill the 3rd Berkshire House seat being vacated by William "Smitty" Pignatelli.   At just after 10:30 on Tuesday evening, with 97 percent of the votes counted, the Associated Press called the Democratic primary for Davis, a member of the Great Barrington Select Board.   She had 56 percent of the votes, well ahead of her nearest challenger, Patrick White, who had 37 percent. Common Folk Awarded Grant to Implement Strategic Plan

ADAMS, Mass. -- An eight-mile, mostly uphill climb to the the highest point in the commonwealth is enough of a challenge for any runner.   For Mount Greylock Regional School senior Rafael Mellow-Bartels, Sunday brought another problem.   "I think, for me, the main challenge was just running without anybody around me," Mellow-Bartels said after completing the 48th annual Mount Greylock Road Race.   "It was kind of foggy for the last two miles, so I couldn't see anybody. Manzolini Scores for MCLA Men in Season-Opener

ERIE, Pa. -- Owen Peterson had a goal and an assist on Saturday to lead the Penn State-Behrend men's soccer team to a 3-1 win over MCLA in the season-opener for both teams.   Monument Mountain graduate Avery Manzolini scored with an assist from Pittsfield High alum Brandon Balcazar for the Trailblazers.   Ryan Taylor made six saves for MCLA.   On Sunday, the Trailblazers finished play in Behrend's Herb Lauffer Tournament with a 7-0 loss to Baldwin Wallace.   Three different Trailblazers split time in goal; Ryan Taylor made eight saves in 58 minutes of work in the loss. Tamarack Hollow Breaks Ground on Long-Anticipated Nature Center

The education center will allow Tamarack to hold programming without worrying about the weather. 

WINDSOR, Mass. — Aimee Gelinas and Daniel Cohen have led hikes and other programming at Tamarack Hollow Nature and Cultural Center for more than a decade.
