Adult Hockey Tournament to Benefit Berkshire Humane Society

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The annual Berkshire Charity Draft Tournament is set to take place Sept. 13 and 14 at the Peter W. Foote Vietnam Veterans Memorial Rink.   The event will bring together hockey enthusiasts and local community members to raise funds for the Berkshire Humane Society, a local animal shelter dedicated to rescuing and caring for animals in need.   The tournament will showcase the talent and sportsmanship of participating teams. Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy a weekend of action-packed hockey while supporting a worthy cause.   During the tournament organizers will be collecting food and supplies for Berkshire Humane Society at the rink.

Berkshire Cider Approved for Invite-Event

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The License Commission approved one-day license to the Berkshire Cider Project for an event at Joe Wolfe Field.    Matt Brogan told the commissioners on Tuesday afternoon that the cidery would be selling its cider and beer from Bright Ideas for the invitation-only event. The fundraiser involved the Milltown Circus, which is mounting its second fall foliage performance this year.    "I haven't seen the tent, but my memory from last year is they have sort of concessions entry tent, yes, which we'll see if we fit in there," said Brogan. North Adams School District Starts New Year With New Faces

Principals and other staff at the August School Committee meeting at City Hall.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The public schools welcomed two new faces this year: a dean of students at Brayton Elementary and a director of adult education and 21st Century programming.    Steven Rickman and Kate Merrigan were introduced at the School Committee's Aug. 26 meeting.    The Merrigan isn't really new as she spent two terms as a city councilor. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — There's a cat at No Paws Left Behind that is waiting for her forever home.   iBerkshire's Companion Corner is a weekly series spotlighting an animal in our local shelters that is ready to find a home.   Sabrina is a 4-year-old domestic shorthair mix, with a tortoise-shell coat. North Adams Council OKs Sale of Historic Church Street Properties

The home garnered 25 bids and got so much interest the agent had to add on staff.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The City Council voted to sell off the three Church Street houses and an adjacent vacant lot for $181,001.   A fourth property at 0 High St. was sold for $18,000.   "So very exciting times for us," Mayor Jennifer Macksey. "The Church Street properties in particular had several, several viewings. I think we got close to 25 offers on the properties."   The houses generated a lot of interested once posted on Zillow, showing up in a wide variety of Facebook groups from historic houses to Star Trek (after someone spotted an Enterprise poster)

Clarksburg School Refreshes Kindergarten Wing

A new smart TV in the lobby entrance was provided by the PTA, along with a smaller one to track schedules in the main office.  CLARKSBURG, Mass. — The kindergarten wing of Clarksburg School was refreshed with paint and new flooring before the school year started.    The flooring in the 1970s "temporary" addition had been showing its age and had been raised as an issue by teachers over the past few years. HooWRA Workshop Focuses on Poetry

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — BFAIR's Community Based Day Support (CBDS) program made a special delivery to City Hall on Friday and helped stock the Veterans Services Office's food pantry.   "I am totally overwhelmed.
