BFAIR Promotes Katrina Cardillo to Senior Director

Letter: Reflecting on North Adams' Resolution to Be a Sanctuary City

To the Editor:

I commend the North Adams City Council for passing the resolution declaring our city a Sanctuary City for transgender and gender-diverse people. At a time when human rights are under attack, this action reaffirms North Adams' commitment to being a place of safety, dignity, and belonging for all. Thank you to Councilors Breen, Blackmer, Fitch, Bona, Shade, and Morrow for using their platform to protect the rights of all community members.

While the overall sentiment in the room was supportive, I want to highlight a concerning moment. A local transgender teen stood up to share how their queer family had recently experienced transphobia. As he attempted to read a hateful

Neal Congressional Aide Wants to Hear Constituents

Garceau's National Title Highlights Winter Season for Local Collegians

Wahconah graduate and UMass-Boston junior Aryianna Garceau was crowned the school's 21st National Champion at the 2025 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championships in Rochester, N.Y., posting an historic time of 8.35 seconds in the women's 60-meter hurdles.   Her championship-winning performance is an NCAA DIII Championship meet record and places her among the top two hurdlers of all time in NCAA DIII, capping off an unforgettable season.   Garceau finished with an astonishing, record-breaking 8.35 seconds finish to conclude the season undefeated against NCAA DIII competition. Smile Programs Visits North Adams Public Schools

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A mobile dental program visited North Adams Public Schools last week to ensure that students had healthy smiles. 

Founded by two moms who were also dentists, the Smile Programs has been offering dental checkups at schools more more than 20 years. 

"Bringing the care to the patient's hard for families to find care providers that provide care for MassHealth and so we're kind of just bringing the care to the patients," said Dr. Dana Burkett.

Smile Programs is in 17 states and says it has have helped more

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Police officers stuck at Center Street and Holden won't have to flash their lights to get through soon.    Public Safety Committee last week recommended the City Council follow the Traffic Commission's lead to remove the "No Turn on Right" sign next to Public Eat and Drink.   "Most of the officers are saying you're stuck at that intersection," interim Chief Mark Bailey told the committee. North Adams Share the Love Campaign Surpasses Fundraising Goal

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — First Congregational Church of North Adams' fourth annual "Share the Love" campaign concluded with over $9,000 raised to support local organizations serving individuals in need.

"Share the Love is catching on; people are familiar with it and wish to support the organizations that we have identified," Lois Daunis of the the church's Missions Team said. 

The initiative raised more than $6,000, primarily from North County residents, with additional contributions from church members as far away as Indiana.

The campaign's initial goal was set at $5,000, with a planned 50 percent matching contribution from the church's Missions
