National Grid Encourages Use of Energy Assistance Programs02:29PM / Monday, January 27, 2025 | | WALTHAM, Mass. — National Grid encourages its Massachusetts customers to take advantage of energy programs that can help manage their energy bills and keep their homes comfortable during winter temperatures. The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, commonly referred to as fuel assistance, provides eligible households with help in paying a portion of winter heating bills. Enrollment for LIHEAP is free and open through April 30. LIHEAP is open to homeowners and renters, including households whose cost of heat is included in rent. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Ten electrical boxes throughout downtown North Adams have been transformed into vibrant works of public art as part of a new citywide beautification project. The initiative, led by the city's Cultural District Committee, Public Arts Commission, City Councilor Andrew Fitch, and Mayor Jennifer Macksey, was completed in October 2024 after months of planning. Local artists with strong ties to North Adams were invited to apply, and ten were selected through a competitive process. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Frank Scalise served his country in the Army in the Korean War as a sergeant from 1950 to 1952. At 99 years of age, he has a fantastic memory, is quick-witted, humorous and possesses a powerful handshake. The North Adams native said he was initially drafted for World War II but was classified 4-F, unfit for service, because of two hernias. He was inducted in late 1950 at age 25, among the first group of draftees from the Berkshires, and sent to basic training at Fort Devens.
