MassWildlife Biologist to Speak at Berkshire Green Drinks

DALTON, Mass. — Wildlife biologist Nathan Buckhout will present at the March Berkshire Green Drinks gathering on Wednesday, March 8, at 6:00 PM in person at Shire Breu-Hous inside The Stationery Factory, 63 Flansburg Ave. and online via Zoom.    Buckhout will talk about Mustelids, otherwise known as the weasel family, and go over some common characteristics of the diverse group.    Mustelids are a family of carnivorous mammals, which include weasels, minks, otters, fishers, martens, and wolverines, among others. Two Sentenced On Drug Charges

PITTSFIELD, Mass.– Oasis Hason and Ahmed Shabazz were found guilty of possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute and sentenced to one to two years in state prison.  

On Thursday, Feb. 16 Hasan, age 25 of Yonkers, N.Y., and Shabazz, age 27 also of Yonkers, were both found guilty of Possession of Cocaine with the Intent to Distribute. 

Both men were acquitted of charges relating to items found in a locked safe found inside the residence (Trafficking in Heroin (18-36 grams), Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm during the Commission of a Felony, and 2 counts of Possession of Ammunition).

The defendants had been arrested

MCLA to Hold Annual Sam Gomez Race

NORTH ADAMS, MASS.— The Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) Student Government Association's (SGA) 45th annual Sam Gomez Road Race will again be a hybrid event this year, with an interactive virtual race that will be run from March 24 th through March 31 and the in-person event will be held on April 1.    This year's race will benefit Tapestry of North Adams.    Through the event, the SGA has raised over $30,000 for Berkshire-based organizations for almost 20 years.    Runners can register at mcla.edu/samgomez. SVHC, CCV Welcome Early Childhood Education Program Residents

Specifically, can you count on it to contribute part of the income you'll need as a retiree?   There's been an increase in alarming language surrounding the solvency of Social Security, but in reality, its prospects are not nearly as gloomy as you might have heard.   Here's the story: Under current law, Social Security is estimated to exhaust its trust funds by 2035, after which benefits could be cut by 20 percent, according to the 2022 Social Security Trustees report. North Adams May Have to Pay Towing Fee for Flipped Aircraft

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Airport Commission took no action on a $5,000 invoice regarding an airplane that needed to be towed in December after being flipped over during heavy winds.   Commission member Marc Morandi, who is responsible for approving invoices, brought the item to the full commission Tuesday wondering if the city should simply pay the invoice or seek to recoup funds.   This summer during a storm, a plane was flipped over at the airport.
