Another Snow Storm To Hit The Berkshires This Weekend

The Berkshires are expected to be hit by snow again this week with 5 to 10 inches expected Friday, March 3 night through Saturday, March 4   The National Weather Service has released a Winter Storm Warning starting March 3 at 6:00 p.m. until March 4 at 7:00 p.m.   Heavy snow is expected in Northern Berkshire County. Snow rates may exceed one inch per hour at times Friday night.   Accuweather predicts that snowfall will begin on 9:00 p.m. Friday and end at the same time Saturday. The heaviest snowfall will be overnight Friday.    Snow Emergencies and Declarations:   The City of North Adams has declared a snow emergency from 8 p.m. Friday until 7 p.m. Saturday

Northern Berkshire Veteran Services Holds March Food Drive

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — For the month of March, residents can do their part to support local veterans by donating to the veterans' food pantry.   The pantry, which keeps nonperishable food on hand for veterans in need, also provides personal care items and some clothing. It was established in the Veteran Services Office in City Hall some years ago.    "Oh, there's always a need," Director of Veteran Services Stephen Roy said. "We strive to fill the shelves at least once per month and by the time we re-stock, the shelves are nearly bare."   Roy said the agency would periodically run clothing and food drives to replenish

Berkshire Harm Reduction Implementing Narcan Boxes in Pittsfield

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Hoping to save lives from opioid overdose, Berkshire Harm Reduction is bringing Narcan to the streets.   Program Manager Sarah DeJesus updated the Board of Health on Wednesday on the organization's efforts to place Narcan or Naloxone boxes in public places that are readily available for use.   The medicine, which is administered nasally, blocks opiate receptors in the nervous system.   "One of the recent initiatives that we became involved in is through the HEALing Communities Study, and it has a very ambitious goal to reduce overdose deaths by 40 percent in the next 18 months that the program is in existence," DeJesus said about

Registration for Summer Courses at MCLA Now Available

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) announced that registration for summer class sessions is now open.    Registration is open to MCLA students, interested community members, high school students, those pursuing a master's degree, and Berkshires-based college students who wish to earn credits toward their degree from another institution.    MCLA is offering two summer sessions, held in North Adams, Pittsfield, and online. Session A runs May 22–June 30, 2023, and Session B runs July 3–August 11, 2023.    MCLA now offers more than 50 online courses, along with summer evening courses, to accommodate the schedules

North Adams Awarded Federal Grant to Study Downtown Connections

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — North Adams is getting $750,000 in federal funding to rethink the Central Artery and consider ways to better connect the downtown to Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art.    The city partnered with Mass MoCA on the application last fall for the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act's Reconnecting Communities Pilot Program. February may be been relatively mild — with even a couple 50 and 60-degree days — but Mother Nature is reminding us that winter is still in full force by sending a significant snowstorm our way.    The National Weather Service in Albany, N.Y., has declared a 24-hour winter storm warning starting Monday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m.   Expect heavy snow in Berkshire County with total accumulations of 4 to 9 inches. New Group Exhibition Opens at Gallery 51
