Youth Health Collaborative Takes Lead on March nbCC Forum

Greylock/Brayton School Project Will Look at Grade Reconfiguration

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Brayton/Greylock school project is back in the feasibility phase along with expanded options for the School Building Committee to review.    Superintendent Barbara Malkas updated the School Committee on Tuesday of the Massachusetts School Building Authority's decision received on March 1     The project had been back in the "eligibility" phase because of the stop and start that occurred after MSBA recommended that the city not pursue only a renovation of Greylock and recommended that Brayton School be brought into the mix as the city looks to consolidate to one school in the West End.    The administration had

Black Bears Waking Up in Massachusetts

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — March is hungry bear season, says the state Department of Fisheries and Wildlife.    Wildlife officials are reminding the public that bears are beginning to emerge from their winter dens and seek out food.    Residents in northern Middlesex County, Worcester County and Western Massachusetts, or other areas where bears have been spotted, should know it's time to take down bird feeders.    Natural foods such as acorns and other nuts are usually available on the ground, but last year's fall hard mast crop was meager. North Adams Library Hires Assistant Director

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The library trustees welcomed new Assistant Director Ryan Miller, who started on Feb. 21.   "We are happy to have him here," Library Director Veronica Clark said at Wednesday's meeting. Drury To Perform 'Matilda the Musical'

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Drury Stage Company in conjunction with the Drury Music Department will perform Roald Dahl's "Matilda the Musical."   Performances will be held on Friday, March 31 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 1 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.   All performances will take place in the Drury High School auditorium, 1130 South Church Street in North Adams. Drury High Getting Air Quality Sensors

North Adams Public Safety Looks to Tighten Up Taxi Regs

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Police could have greater sway over who can have a taxi driver's license in the city of North Adams.    The Public Safety Committee has been reviewing the taxi ordinance at the behest of the mayor and Police Department after a recent hearing on violations pointed to the city's limitations in regulating cab companies. Three Hospitalized After Car Accident On Curran Highway

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Police are investigating a three-car motor vehicle accident that took place near Hodges Cross Road that left three injured.    At approximately 10:41 a.m. Friday morning, North Adams dispatch received multiple calls reporting an accident in the southbound lane of the Curran Highway at the intersection commonly used as the southern entrance to Walmart.   Callers stated that at least one person was trapped in their car, and it's engine compartment was on fire.   Bystanders were able to help extract the person from the car.
