Berkshire Communities Awarded Community Development Block Grants

BOSTON — Adams, Ergemont, Lee, Great Barrington, Marlborough, and North Adams were all awarded Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) to support various initiatives.     Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll and Secretary of Housing and Livable Communities Edward Augustus Jr. announced the $64.9 million in Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) on Friday, Aug. 25. 'Pause' To Open at the Eclipse Mill

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Eclipse Mill Gallery will host "Pause", a two-person exhibit featuring the work of artists Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) Professor of Art Melanie Mowinski and artist Debi Pendell, from Sept. 1 to 30.   The exhibit will be open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 12-4 pm.   An opening reception will be held at the gallery on Saturday, Sept. 9 th from 5-7 pm.   This event free and is open to the public, and refreshments will be served. North Adams Policy Panel Votes for Early, Upper Elementary Schools

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Pending a vote next Tuesday, the North Adams Public Schools will go forward with two elementary programs.   The policy subcommittee on Thursday morning voted unanimously on an organization of instruction policy that creates a new grade configuration of early elementary (prekindergarten through Grade 2) and upper elementary (Grades 3-6) in addition to the secondary program of Grades 7-12.    The only other option was to stay with the current secondary and preK-6 program. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Laura O'Neil went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored the winning run on Wednesday evening as Club Wyndham edged Jack's Hot Dogs, 6-5, in the Pat Torchia Women's Softball League playoffs.   Lisa Williams and Julie Lech each went 3-for-4 with a double in the win.   For Jack's Cassandra Crosier went 3-for-4 and started a game-tying rally in the top of the seventh inning.   Savannah Rogers was 3-for-4, and Alli Lillie was 2-for-4 with a double in the loss.   With the win, Club Wyndham advances to the semi-finals of the double-elimination tournament. North Adams Resident Killed in N.Y. Crash

The North Adams man killed in Tuesday's accident has been identified as David G. Snow, 41.    NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A North Adams resident was killed in a fatal crash Tuesday in New York's Rensselaer County.   The accident is still under investigation by New York State Police and the name of the North Adams driver has not been released.    According to a number of New York State news sites, the North Adams resident was westbound at about 2:20 p.m. on Route 7 in Pittstown, west of Hoosick Falls, when they sideswiped a commercial truck hauling a mobile home. North Adams Council OKs Tourists Tax Exemption

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The City Council on Tuesday approved a tax agreement to support the $17 million redevelopment of the Blackinton woolen mill into 50 luxury hotel rooms.   The city agreed to exempt a portion of the personal and property taxes of the development over a 10-year period starting at 100 percent in 2027.   The vote was unanimous; Councilors Marie T. Clarksburg School Opens Four Slots for PreK 3-Year-Olds

CLARKSBURG, Mass. — Clarksburg School is opening a limited number of spots in its four-day prekindergarten program for 3-year-olds.   The School Committee voted on Monday to accept applications for four non-resident spots for the 2023-2024 school year on a first-come, first-serve basis until Aug. 28.   "We shouldn't have any more than 14, that will give us one, like a cushion in case there's a resident that comes in during the school year," said Superintendent of Schools John Franzoni.
