Route 112 in Colrain Closing for Bridge Work

COLRAIN, Mass. — The state Department of Transportation will close Route 112 to through traffic for approximately eight weeks beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 19.     Bridge repair work will be conducted and will include removing the concrete wearing surface on two bridges and replacing the surface with a polymer modified concrete overlayment.    Work will begin on the first bridge, located just south of the intersection of Route 112 and Charlemont Road, and will take approximately four weeks to complete.   Work will then begin on the second bridge, located just south of the intersection of Route 112 and Call Road, and will also take approximately four weeks

MCLA Volleyball Wins in Straight Sets

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Lee High graduate Elizabeth Brown had seven kills and four digs Saturday as the MCLA women's volleyball team beat SUNY Poly in straight sets.   Anais Badio had a team-high 10 kills for the Trailblazers in the 25-16, 25-13, 25-23 win.   MCLA (5-2) hosts New England College on Tuesday.   Men's Soccer FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- Gustav Hemmingsen had a goal and an assist to lead Framingham State to a 2-0 win over MCLA.   Ryan Taylor made four saves for MCLA (2-3, 0-1 MASCAC), which hosts Mass Maritime on Friday.

McCann Tech Awards $2.9M HVAC Building Contract

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — McCann Technical School officials are hoping to get students into the HVAC technician classrooms by February next year.    The School Committee on Thursday night awarded the contract for the 5,800 square-foot building to Salco Construction of Pittsfield, which came in with the low bid of about $2.9 million.    Salco has worked on a range of local construction projects from residential homes to larger enterprises such as the Berkshire Museum renovation and Jiminy Peak. Bradley Architects was the designer.   McCann received a $3,110,000 state Skills Capital Grant last year to implement the new heating, ventilation and air conditioning

RANDOLPH, Vt. --  It took two extra holes and a sudden death play-off, but MCLA's  Matt Gover won his third individual title of the season today claiming the Tony Mariano Invitational hosted by Norwich University at the Montague Golf Club.   Gover shot an even par 71 with a birdie on the 8th hole and an eagle on the 15th to tie Norwich University's Cooper Bertrand before winning the title on the second play-off hole.   Two weeks ago, Gover won the Norwich Invitational on the same course and earlier this week he won the MCLA Invitational at the Waubeeka Country Club.   The Norwich Gray team took the overall team title with a combined score of 306 with New

North Adams Taxi Company Gets 90-Day Probation

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The City Council slapped OTT Taxi with a 90-day probation after police reported several violations since the taxi company was warned back in February.   Documents for the show cause hearing on Tuesday had raised the possibility of revocation of the business's license to operate but councilors weren't convinced that the violations were egregious enough.    Specifically, interim Police Chief Mark Bailey said owner John Lord was observed twice in July driving On Time Taxi cabs, which he is not licensed to operate, and that vehicles owned by OTT employees have been ticketed for being parked in front of the River Street office beyond the
