DANBURY, Conn. – Taconic graduate Sam Sherman went 3-for-4 on Saturday night to help the North Adams SteepleCats beat the Danbury, Conn., Westerners, 8-3, in the New England Collegiate Baseball League.   Jake Kulikowski and Luke Mistone each homered, and Jayder Raifstanger (Monument Mountain) and Derek Paris (Mount Greylock) each scored a run for the SteepleCats.   Tanner Duke earned the win on the mound, starting and going six innings. Duke struck out 10 and allowed two runs.   North Adams (8-10) Sunday travels to Rhode Island to face Ocean State.

LANESBOROUGH, Mass. -- Cam Bullett got a called third strike in the bottom of the sixth with the bases loaded Friday to secure a 5-4 win for the North Adams Police in the championship game of the Berkshire County Cal Ripken League 10-and-under division.   Bullett recorded six strikeouts in two innings of work to lead NAPD past the tournament's top seed, Lanesborough Local 473, at Laston Park.   Christian Chelsey, Nolan Bullett and Cam Bullett combined on the win on the mound for North Adams, striking out 14 hitters in all.   "Our pitching has been great all year," NAPD coach Chris Bullett said. ADAMS, Mass. – Lydia Gaudreau went 1-for-2 and scored a run Thursday for the Greylock Thunder 14-and-under travel softball squad in an 8-1 loss to the Columbia County Reds.   Alana Olmedo doubled for the Thunder, which also got a hit from Kenadi Arnhold.   Avery Lane and Marlee Arnhold split time in the circle for Greylock, combining to strike out seven.   The Thunder (0-5) goes to Schenectady, N.Y., on Saturday for a weekend tournament.

Garceau Earns All-America Honors at UMass Boston

Wahconah Regional High School graduate and UMass Boston sophomore Aryianna Garceau earned all-America honors in the 100-meter hurdles at May's NCAA Division III Championships.   Garceau took sixth in the finals with a time of 14.05 seconds after qualifying for the finals with a time of 13.97, which broke a 35-year school record.   In earning all-America honors, Garceau became the 20th Beacon to achieve that honor and the first since 2018.   Earlier in May, Garceau was named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association's all-Region team.
