 NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The city's 26th annual Downtown Celebration is a giant block party on Main Street. The event runs from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday and covers Main, Holden and historic Eagle Street. Rain date is Thursday, Aug.10, but the weather looks good at the moment: partly sunny with highs in the 70s. The yearly street festival brings thousands downtown to celebrate with community, food, shopping and entertainment. Jonathan Girard, owner of J Star Gymnastics in North Adams, pleaded not guilty in Vermont District Court in Barre on Thursday, Aug. 10, to a charge of voyeurism. Girard is accused of filming children in a bathroom at a Waterbury, Vt., gymnastics academy earlier this summer while a visiting coach there between July 10 and 14. His fiancée on July 15 discovered a video of a young teenage girl using the bathroom on an SD card on his computer and at least 20 other clips, according to the Vermont State Police affidavit.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The owners of the Tourists resort are planning a $17 million expansion of the facility into the Blackinton Mill that's estimated to add at least 25 new full-time job. According to a communication from Mayor Jennifer Macksey, representatives from the resort will give an overview of their plans at Tuesday's City Council meeting in advance of the mayor requesting a tax increment financing agreement for the project at the last meeting in August. But there will definitely be some changes on the City Council with only six incumbents running for re-election in November. Tuesday at 5 p.m. was the deadline to get in 50 certified signatures to run for office. Jennifer Macksey is being challenged in her run to retain the corner office by Aprilyn Carsno, who ran unsuccessfully for mayor two years ago and was eliminated in a preliminary election.
