Hamlet Leads Team to Giorgi League WiniBerkshires.com Sports,

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Deshawn Hamlet scored 29 points and pulled down 11 rebounds Monday as Battle of the Future battled to a 74-71 win over the PhoneBros in the A Division season opener of the John Giorgi Summer Basketball League. Aaron Perkins scored 18 points for Battle of the Future, and Bryce Webb and Daemond Carter added 11 and 10, respectively. PhoneBros was led by Julius Woods with 25 points and seven boards. Dave Wells added 14, and Mike Taylor had 11 points for Phone Bros. Team DB defeated Giardina and Bressett PC, 58-47, in Monday's nightcap.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A couple more candidates have taken out papers for the November city election but so far there are not enough names to consider a preliminary election. There are now 12 possible candidates; 19 would trigger a preliminary election. Incumbent Wayne Wilkinson and Andrew Fitch are the latest to toss their hat in the ring as of early Friday; Lisa Blackmer, council president, has also taken papers out. She will be seeking her eighth nonconsecutive term Wilkinson will be running for his fifth elected term on the council. NORTH ADAMS, Mass.—Applications are open for the 2023 Berkshire Bank STEM Academy for incoming first-year students at MCLA. The program accepts up to 15 students enrolled in a STEM major or who have expressed interest in STEM fields. The 2023 program will run from July 23 to July 27. The deadline to apply is July 1. Librarian Maggie Donahue led the project and each child was assigned a page. SAVOY, Mass. — Students at the Emma L. Miller Memorial Elementary School created a book walk based on the book "Old Rock" by children's author Deb Pilutti. "So it made them really think about the characters. You have 42 different kids drawing the same rock. But every page looks different in 42 different ways," Librarian Maggie Donahue, who led the project said.
