Community Night Brings Northern Berkshire School Union Together

The summer camp and Community Night are supported by a United Way grant.  CLARKSBURG, Mass. — The annual Community Night filled the school grounds recently with music, dancing, activities, and food.   The evening is something of a culmination of the Northern Berkshire School Union's five-week summer camp that's now in its third year.   The program was funded through a $134,400 grant from the United Way Summer Step Up Program, through the United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley with the support of Northern Berkshire United Way.   Jordan Rennell, the district's director of summer programming, said some of the funding from the Summer

Team Rubicon Heeded Call to Help Flooded North Adams Homes

Team Rubicon dedicated their volunteer service in North Adams to Michael DeMarsico II, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2012. A memorial to DeMarsico is outside the Armory where the team was billeted; a memorial ceremony was held last week. DALTON, Mass. -- Avery Lane and Gianna Witek Monday combined on a two-hitter to send the Greylock Thunder Black to the championship game of the Berkshire County Fast Pitch Softball League 12-and-under division.   The Thunder beat Dalton, 8-1, at Chamberlain Park to earn a date against Adams-Cheshire-Savoy Swat, an 18-17 winner over the Berkshire Force Black on Monday in Adams.   The Thunder and ACS will play on Tuesady at 5:45 at Albert Reid Field for the county's summer championship.   Monday's semi-final in Dalton was dominated by pitching.   Dalton's Kaylee Prew struck out 12 in a losing cause.   Lane and Witek struck out 16 between them in the

TROY, N.Y. – Lucas Hamilton struck out four and scattered seven hits in a 12-0, six-inning win for the Berkshire Bananas 14-and-under travel baseball team in AA2 division final of the Eastern New York Travel Baseball Last Man Standing tournament at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.   Hamilton also went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs to help his cause in the title game against the Cohoes Blackhawks 13U Red.   Brennan Vallieres led the Bananas’ offense, going 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and a pair of runs batted in.   Everett Bayliss also doubled in a 10-hit attack. North Adams Mulling Zoning Change to Promote Development on Union Street
