ADAMS, Mass. — The Board of Selectmen approved a $1.35 million application for federal Community Development Block Grants to fund road repairs and housing rehabilitation. "This year is another good opportunity for the town to apply for CDBG funds," Community Development Director Eammon Coughlin told the board on Wednesday. "It's an interesting application because it's going to provide us two years. When we budgeted this grant the last time back in 2021, the maximum amount requested was $800,000. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Redevelopment Authority is asking the court for an attachment on Apkin's scrapyard to prevent the company from selling the 5-acre property. The authority and the city of North Adams are seeking more than $200,000 in alleged delinquent lease payments and firefighting costs as well as cleanup and environmental monitoring at the site in a request for a preliminary injunction. Mayor Jennifer Macksey told the City Council on Tuesday that the renovations at the former juvenile are "about 95 percent complete" and that the furniture will be arriving this week. "Our hope is to have all the communications and everything run by March 1, but I will say that's a soft date," she said. "We're doing a little bit of a dance with Verizon right now. ADAMS, Mass. — The police force's new K9, dubbed "Adam," will be with his handler Officer Curtis Crane at Adam's Hometown Market on Friday, Feb. 17, from 11 to noon. Adam is the first K9 fully funded as a direct result of the Hometown Foundation's Police K-9 Awareness Fundraiser. The fundraiser collected in-store donations at the register in all 18 Adams Hometown Market locations to collectively fundraise for the Adams K-9 Fund, which resulted in the purchase of K9 Adam.
