Adams Theater Owner Buys Topia Inn

ADAMS, Mass. — History is repeating itself at the Topia Inn under its new owners and operators Yina Moore, Kate Chen and Dimitrios Kolaxis.   Moore, owner of the Adams Theater, and the previous owners Nana Simopoulos and Caryn Heilman have taken similar paths in opening the Adams Theater and the inn.    Simopoulos and Heilman purchased the theater and opened it in 2005 as the Topia Arts Center, doing some of the initial restoration work. Two years later, they opened Topia Inn on Pleasant Street as an organic and environmentally conscious operation.    The new owners, as Pleasant St Holdings LLC, purchased the property on Jan. 18 for $600,000. MCLA Baseball Opens Year with Double-Header Sweep

NEW YORK -- Noel Medina went 4-for-5 with a double Saturday to lead the MCLA baseball team to an 11-10 win over Yeshiva in a season-opening double-header win for the Trailblazers.   Taconic grad Austin Rachiele went 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBIs in the win, which saw four MCLA pitchers combine to strike out 12.   In an 10-0 win, four Trailblazers struck out eight and allowed four hits.   Clarence Givhans went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles.   MCLA (2-0) is off until it goes to Florida for eight games starting March 10.

The Hoosac Valley and Wahconah girls basketball teams each came away with victories in all-Berkshire Couty finals on Western Mass tournament Championship Saturday

The day ended with the Drury boys giving Berkshire County a third championship on the day.

Hanna Shea scored 20 points Saturday to lead the Hurricanes to a 71-56 win over Lenox in the Class D final at Holyoke High School.    Down the road at Westfield High, Grace Wigington scored 23 to lead Wahconah past Pittsfield High, 61-49 in Class B.    The Taconic boys dropped their Class B final to Springfield International Charter, 57-51, despite 18 points from Tayvon Sandifer.    In the Class C hockey final,

McCann Moves Forward With Designer for New HVAC Building

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The McCann School Committee has hired Bradley Architects of Pittsfield to draw up the plans for a 5,600 square foot building that will house the new heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration program.    The committee last week approved the bid of $241,880.   The vocational school is the recipient of a $3.1 million state Skills Capital Grant to provide training HVAC. This will cover the construction of the building and the development of the program.    The recommendation was made by the facilities subcommittee, which reviewed three bid submissions. North Adams Pride Hosts First Northern Lights Ball
