NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Alliance for Aviation Across America (AAAA) released proclamations emphasizing the essential role of general aviation. North Adams Harriman-and-West Airport was included by the AAA, a nonpartisan, nonprofit, national grassroots coalition of over 7,000 aviation and non-aviation groups and individuals across the country, including businesses, FBOs, small airports, elected officials, agricultural and charitable organizations, and leading industry and aviation groups. Andrew Fitch would be an excellent addition to the North Adams City Council and I am writing to show support for his election to the Council.
Since coming to North Adams, Andrew has demonstrated a strong passion for the city. He has become an active member of several organizations and boards, including First Fridays, North Adams Pride, North Adams Vacant Storefront Window Art, and more. He is a current member of the Zoning Board of Appeals and is co-chair of the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) Commission.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) has received a $626,536 Workforce Development Grant from the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC). Over the next two years, this grant will fund the purchase of essential equipment for the College's biology and chemistry programs. MCLA was previously awarded $253,542 from MLSC in 2022 to support its equipment needs. MLSC seeks to further the development and expansion of life sciences education in post-secondary institutions to effectively prepare students for high-demand career opportunities in the life sciences industries.  ADAMS, Mass. — The Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum (BSRM) has introduced a poster series promoting its Hoosac Valley Train Ride, the Town of Adams, and the Berkshires. Working with a New England artist, BSRM developed the poster series highlighting the sights and attractions along the historic Adams Branch Line between Adams and North Adams. BSRM operates scenic train rides along this line. The posters are designed in the style of the colorful artwork created under the Works Progress Administration during the Great Depression, and hark back to the vintage railroad advertisements that promoted tourist attractions along their routes.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Airport Commission heard from a resident who lives east of the airport who had concerns about an uptick in low-flying aircraft. The airport's engineer, Peter Enzien of Stantec, suspected that the planes were flying lower because the airport recently underwent some obstacle removal and cut some large trees impeding the proper landing at runway 29. He said with obstacles removed, planes are simply landing properly now. "If the trees were there before, it was an obstruction, so the planes had to land a little bit longer or higher as they approach," he told the commission on Tuesday.
