Sanford Mainers Down SteepleCats

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Thomas Ellisen went four innings on the mound Thursday to lead the Sanford Mainers to a 10-4 win over the North Adams SteepleCats in the New England Collegiate Baseball League.   Luke Mistone went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs for North Adams.   The SteepleCats (12-21) go to Rhode Island to play Ocean State on Friday.

Hundreds Still Without Power in North County, Stamford

A new pole is in place for a transformer on Main Road in Stamford. 

STAMFORD, Vt. — Nearly 18 hours after severe thunderstorms pummeled the region, hundreds of customers are without power. 

  The latest update estimates is that power will be back on at 2 p.m. in North Berkshire. Green Mountain Power's outage map could not provide an estimate on power restoration.     Many residents woke up to the sounds of chainsaws and generators on Wednesday morning as clean up from the storm continued.   Stamford was hit hard with trees blocking roads and broken utility poles. Thunderstorms Leave Downed Trees, Wires and Debris Across North County

A tree limb smashed in the cab on Mark Moulton's truck.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A severe thunderstorm hammered parts of North and Central County on Tuesday night, downing trees and limbs and leaving more than 8,000 customers without power.    The Berkshires, Eastern New York and parts of Southern Vermont were under a severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m. on Tuesday. The storm came through shortly after 6 p.m. with thunder and lightning and torrential rain.    Alerts and calls began streaming into dispatch and fire and police departments began calling in extra help.    When the rain let, the full extent of the damage could be seen —

National Weather Service Issues T-Storm Watch

The Berkshires, Eastern New York and parts of Southern Vermont are under a severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m. on Tuesday.   There is a marginal to slight risk for severe thunderstorms for most of the region Wednesday. BCArc’s Golf Event Raises Funds for Individuals with Disabilities

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Berkshire County Arc raised $45,000 at its 29th annual Golf Classic held this summer at Berkshire Hills Country Club.   The funds raised from the event go directly to individuals with disabilities for activities such as art classes, medical equipment, wheelchair swings, concerts, assistive technology, and dream trips to places like Disney, Celtics games, and deep-sea fishing.   The money also goes to scholarships to area high school students planning to pursue human service careers.   The lead supporters of the event this year were Berkshire Bank, Health New England, Greylock Federal Credit Union,  Notch Insurance Group, Synagex Modern IT, and

Big Y Investigates Conn. Skimmer Incident

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Big Y supermarket discovered skimmers in two of its Connecticut stores last month.    In a press release on Monday, the grocery chain said an unknown individual attached a skimming device to one single terminal in each of its Naugatuck and Plainville locations. The skimmers were found on June 29.   Skimmers are devices that are illegally installed over or inside card readers at places like convenience stores, fuel pumps and ATMs to steal information off the cards. While the national debate about the top of the Democratic ticket in November is sucking so much oxygen out of our political room, it is easy to forget that there is more than one way to make sure the MAGA agenda does not have a chance to spread its intolerance and injustice across our great nation.

If we can make sure that we elect Democratic majorities to our Congress and our state legislatures, then Project 2025 priorities such as gutting our public education system, destroying our commitment to averting a climate catastrophe, privatizing Social Security and Medicare, appointing ideologues to the Supreme Court, and abandoning our important international defense

Artists Needed To Beautify North Adams Electrical Boxes

NORTH ADAMS, Mass.— This Summer, North Adams' Cultural District Committee, Public Arts Commission, City Councilor Andrew Fitch, and Mayor Jennifer Macksey have approved, funded, and produced a new public art project for downtown North Adams.    In an effort to continue the beautification of the city, ten electrical boxes at downtown intersections have been chosen to showcase a new collection of artwork from local artists.
