NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — This August's First Friday is a block party on Eagle Street from 4 to 9 p.m. The Friday's event will feature music, street games, activities and gallery openings. Mayor Jennifer Macksey will host a downtown gathering and Desperados Mexican Restaurant on Eagle Street will offer beer and wine for sale. The monthly downtown event was established last year with local gallery owner and Public Arts Commission Chair Anna Farrington taking the lead in collaboration with downtown businesses. DANBURY, Conn. -- Joseph Skarad went 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs, and the Danbury Westerners hit six home runs in five innings to complete a double-header sweep of the North Adams SteepleCats on Thursday night. The Westerners exploded for 16 hits in a 16-9 win in the nightcap, which also saw Ryan Galanie and William Binder homer for North Adams. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Northern Berkshire Fall Foliage Parade returns for its 66th year with the theme of "Holidays on Parade." The parade steps off on Sunday, Oct 2, at 1 p.m. from the corner of State and Old State streets and travels to Main Street. It's hosted by 1Berkshire and the city of North Adams. Groups, businesses and individuals can participate through donations, sponsorships, marching and making floats. ADAMS, Mass. -- Victoria Blanchard singled in the bottom of the fourth Wednesday to give the Adams-Cheshire-Savoy Swat 10-and-under softball team a 21-20 win over the Greylock Thunder in the Championship Game of the Berkshire County Softball League. After ACS jumped out to a 17-3 lead, the Thunder roared back to tie the game. Town Administrator Carl McKinney told the Select Board on Wednesday that the application for a $1 million grant was submitted prior to July 6 and the town should hear if it's been accepted by the end of August. The section targeted is just over a mile from River Road to Wood Road and would include repairs, paving, updated guardrails near the state park and some culvert work.
