MCLA Softball Picks Up Second Win

NAPLES, Fla. -- Kristie Zator went 2-for-4 with a pair of triples Thursday to lead the MCLA softball team to a 10-6 win over SUNY-Delhi.   Hailey Peabody hit a two-run home run, and Hoosac Valley graduate Abby Bird hit a pinch-hit single.   Sarah Williams struck out three and allowed three earned runs in seven innings to earn the win.   The Trailblazers Thursday also dropped a 6-2 decision to William Patterson.   MCLA (2-8) goes to Albertus Magnus for a double-header on March 25.

Drury, MCLA Included in State Early College Program

BOSTON — The Early College Joint Committee under the Healey-Driscoll administration unanimously voted to expand the Massachusetts Early College program, adding nine additional Early College partnerships and increasing the number of participating high schools to nearly 60 high schools across the Commonwealth.    With these additional programs, nearly 7,800 Massachusetts students are projected to be enrolled in Early College programs by the upcoming school year. Following the Joint Committee's vote, there are now 48 designated Early College program partnerships across 58 high schools and 27 higher education institutions across the Commonwealth. North Adams Police Chief Under Investigation

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Police Chief Jason Wood has been put on paid administrative leave while an internal investigation is conducted.   According to the Berkshire Eagle, Wood's leave began March 8, and the investigation, which is being done by the city's legal team, is not criminal in nature.   In the interim, Lt. Anthony Beverly is running the department.   Wood was promoted to chief in 2019. He has been with the department for 20 years.

MCLA Baseball Splits Double-Header

North Adams Planners OK Dirt Track Changes Over Residents' Objections

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A motocross operation has been allowed more flexible weekday operations and the option to stay open an hour later during its four day a week run.    The application by Bro MX, owned by Jessica and Jason Langenback, was approved 5-1 Monday night by the Planning Board over objections from residents who say the noise from the track on Curran Highway is "extraordinarily obnoxious."    The track is currently open on Tuesdays and Thursdays for practice and on the weekend for races. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — As Berkshire County emerges from the Pi Day Snow Storm it is time to break out the rulers, well in most cases yardsticks, to see how much we actually got.   The mid-March Nor'easter dumped up to 3 feet of snow throughout the region Monday night continuing through Tuesday, causing difficult driving conditions, downed trees, wires, power outages, and closures that left the Berkshires and Southern Vermont still mostly buried Wednesday.    Readsboro, Vt., may have been the hardest hit in the region with one observer reporting 42 inches of snow to the National Weather Service in Albany, N.Y.   The following numbers were taken from the NWS map of

Northern Berkshire Emergency Shelter Opened During Storm

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — National Grid reported more than 100,000 customers were without power during the height of the storm and that roughly 14,000 customers Berkshire, Worcester, Essex, Hampshire, Middlesex, and Franklin counties still needed service to be restored as of Wednesday morning.   There were pockets without power across the county, including about 300 customers in North County. North Adams Planners OK 11-Room Addition to Porches

Berkshire Hills Development purchased to the two houses more than a decade go. They were approved for demolition last year. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Planning Board on Monday gave the go-ahead for Porches to add 11 rooms to the downtown hotel.   The hotel on River Street is planning to knock down two adjacent buildings at 22-28 Veazie St. and replace them with a new structure that will contain 11 rooms and four studios, and will allow for seven underground parking spaces.   The hotel is allowed by right in the B-2 zone and has owned the two Veazie Street two-family homes for more than a decade.
