North Berkshire Neighborlies Recognize Good Works in the Community

See more photos here.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — More than 130 groups and individuals were recognized on Wednesday night for there good works in the community.    They ranged from volunteering at the Adams Visitors Center, to providing free legal advice to seniors, to offering baked goods and warm welcomes, to providing social and emotional support to new parents, to cultivating butterfly gardens, to helping neighbors with chores and to keeping the community and schools safe.   The Neighborlies, an award celebration sponsored by Northern Berkshire Community Coalition, was held at the Church

MCLA Men's Basketball Gets Second Win

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Mamadou Diallo scored 14 points and grabbed 15 rebounds Saturday to lead the MCLA men's basketball team to a 78-65 win over Clarks Summit.   Jayden Mills scored 13, and Reece Racette finished with 11 points and eight rebounds.   MCLA (2-4) travels to play Elms College on Monday.

North Adams Finance Committee Goes to Bat for Business

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Finance Committee on Thursday voted to recommend a property tax split of 1.715, bucking the mayor's request to go to the maximum on the commercial side.    Mayor Jennifer Macksey and Assessor Jessica Lincourt had advised a shift of 1.75 at last week's tax classification hearing, saying this would be an opportune year to relieve some of the burden on residents.   The City Council, however, wasn't convinced this was the right move especially after years of trying to reduce the "absurdly high" gap between residential and commercial rates.    The proposed residential rate would be $17.46 and the commercial rate $38.35

'Be a Santa to a Senior' Returns for Holiday Season

'Be a Santa' trees are located in all three Stop & Shop stores in North Adams and Pittsfield, as well as Wild Oats in Williamstown and the Plant Connector in North Adams. 

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The "Be a Santa to a Senior" program has returned to Berkshire County, giving residents a chance to provide a customized gift to an older adult who could use some holiday cheer.  

Last week, trees went up in five retail locations with ornaments that have a name and wish list on them.  To be a Santa, shoppers can return an unwrapped gift to the location with the ornament attached.

Finalists selected for Lever's Western Massachusetts Health Technology Challenge

MCLA: New Art Lab Installation 'Puff'

SVMC Hosts Online Cooking Class

Louison House Planning Youth Housing on Bracewell Avenue

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Housing support center Louison House hopes to turn 111 to 113 Bracewell Avenue into six apartments for unaccompanied youth. 

 

According to plans presented to the Planning Board Monday, the building, currently split into two units, would be converted into five studio-style apartments with a bathroom and kitchen and one two-bedroom apartment. The interior of the building will be redesigned, including replacing electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and life safety systems, to accommodate the new layout.

nbCC to Host the Annual Neighborlies
