GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. -- Little League post-season play gets underway on Friday evening at Olympia Meadows.   The Donald Gleason District 1 8- to 10-year-old tournament is the first of three district all-star tournaments to be hosted by the Great Barrington Little League over the next couple of weeks.   The three tournaments will use fields at Olympian Meadows (578 South Main St., Great Barrington) and the Sheffield Town Park (Frederic Lane).   On Friday, host Great Barrington will take on the Pittsfield National League, and Dalton/Hinsdale will play the Pittsfield American League at 5 p.m. in the first games of round-robin play.   After each team plays

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Charles Middleton hit a grand slam to lead the North Adams SteepleCats to an 8-3 win over the North Shore Navigators on Saturday.   Thomas Gavello also homered for North Adams (7-7-2) which scored eight runs on just six hits. It scored seven of those runs in the fifth inning to erase a 2-0 deficit.   Richard Alexy earned the win on the mound with two innings of scoreless relief. Jake Cubbler threw three innings of shutout ball, strikin gout five.   North Adams is off on Sunday but home on Monday to take on the Upper Valley Nighthawks.

LEE, Mass. -- Rich Casey threw a five-inning no-hitter to lead the Housatonic River Monsters to a 12-1 win over the Devils last week in Berkshire Adult Baseball League action.   Casey struck out six and walked four. Ben Snow, Tom Duffin and Nick Pow each had a pair of hits for the River Monsters. MONTPELIER, Vt. -- Landon Willeman allowed one run over five innings Sunday to pitch the North Adams SteepleCats to a 10-3 win over Vermont in New England Collegiate Baseball League play.   Willeman struck out five, walked two and allowed three hits before turning the ball over to the bullpen.   Thomas Gavello went 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBIs to lead a 10-hit North Adams attack.   Lucas Donlon and Charles Middleton each had a pair of hits for the SteepleCats.   North Adams (5-5-2) takes a two-game winning streak into Tuesday evening's home game against Keene, N.H., at Joe Wolfe Field.

LYNN, Mass. -- Jeremy Lea hit his second home run of the season and the North Adams SteepleCats Sunday earned their second tie of the season against North Shore.   North Adams, which tied the Navigators, 4-4, in its home opener, tied them, 5-5, in its first trip to Lynn this season.   Aidan Wilde went 2-for-5, and Braden Barry and John Marti each doubled in a seven-hit North Adams attack.   The SteepleCats used four pitchers on the night.
