GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. -- Little League post-season play gets underway on Friday evening at Olympia Meadows. The Donald Gleason District 1 8- to 10-year-old tournament is the first of three district all-star tournaments to be hosted by the Great Barrington Little League over the next couple of weeks. The three tournaments will use fields at Olympian Meadows (578 South Main St., Great Barrington) and the Sheffield Town Park (Frederic Lane). On Friday, host Great Barrington will take on the Pittsfield National League, and Dalton/Hinsdale will play the Pittsfield American League at 5 p.m. in the first games of round-robin play. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Charles Middleton hit a grand slam to lead the North Adams SteepleCats to an 8-3 win over the North Shore Navigators on Saturday. Thomas Gavello also homered for North Adams (7-7-2) which scored eight runs on just six hits. It scored seven of those runs in the fifth inning to erase a 2-0 deficit.
