North Adams American Legion Juniors Roll Past Belchertown

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Andrew Meaney went 2-for-3 with a double and four RBIs Sunday to lead the North Adams Post 125 Juniors to a 24-4 win over Belchertown at Joe Wolfe Field.   Maddux Cooke went 3-for-4 and scored four times for North Adams, which needed just five innings to earn its fourth straight win and improve to 5-2 this summer.   Combined with a 17-6 win over Westfield five days earlier, Sunday’s win gave Post 125 38 runs in its last two games after scoring 15 in its first five outings.   “The boys are playing really well,” North Adams coach Stephen Rotter said. “We came into this game in third place in the [Western Mass] league, and we

GREENFIELD, Mass. – Avery Lane threw a 1-hitter in the circle and went 2-for-3 with a triple at the plate Saturday in leading the Greylock Thunder 14U travel softball team to a 10-0 win over the Prime Softball Blue of North Reading at the Mid-Summer Storm tournament.   Lane struck out four in the four-inning win as the Thunder improved to 3-0 in the tournament.   Ava Jagiello and Kendall Moran each had two hits in a nine-hit attack for Greylock in its second win of the day.   The Thunder started Saturday with a 5-3 win over Vermont’s 8zero2.   Moran went the distance in the circle in that six-inning win, striking out six and allowing no earned

State Awards Greylock Elementary Project Green Grant

BOSTON — The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) awarded North Adams Public Schools $300,000 to support the Greylock Elementary School project.   North Adams Public Schools will use the $300,000 in funding to help cover the cost difference between ground-source heat pumps and conventional HVAC at their newly built Greylock Elementary School, serving PreK through 2nd grades.   "Investing in clean energy to modernize our schools is one of the smartest steps we can take to create healthier, safer learning environments for our students and educators," said Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Rebecca Tepper. Clarksburg Approves Debt Exclusion for School Roof

: The debt exclusion vote passed 200-50 on Wednesday. Author To Discuss 'The Gritty Berkshires' at North Adams Public Library

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The North Adams Public Library, in collaboration with the North Adams Historical Society, will host author Maynard Seider for a discussion of his book, "The Gritty Berkshires: A People's History from the Hoosac Tunnel to MASS MoCA."

The event is scheduled for Wednesday, June 18, at 6 p.m. in the library's third-floor community room.

Seider's book focuses on the immigrants and their descendants who dug the Hoosac Tunnel, worked in the textile mills and the shoe factories of North Berkshire, and produced capacitors at Sprague Electric Company.

North Adams Road Closures for Emergency Response Drill

More than 80 Participate in Hoosic River Run/Walk

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Pittsfield’s Simeon Mercier and Kelly Maginnis were the top male and female finishers in the inaugural Hoosic River Run on Saturday at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art.   Mercier clocked a 5-kilometer time of 20 minutes, 12.65 seconds to finish 49 seconds ahead of the field. North Adams' Greylock School Project Estimated $1M Under Budget

Accent color choices for the interior.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Greylock School budget is running about $1 million under budget as of the submission of 60 percent design documents.    Last year's funding agreement with the Massachusetts School Building Authority estimated the cost of the building at $53,405,500, the majority of the $65.4 million project.
