Northern Berkshire EMS Gets Three New Ambulances

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Northern Berkshire EMS ambulance fleet is finally up to full numbers with the addition of three new ambulances.    "Everybody was patiently waiting," General Manager John Meaney Jr. said. "I say patiently because it was a long time coming."   Meaney said a new group of ambulances was ordered in May but production issues have caused delays. He said there is a chassis shortage, and a post-workforce shortage is causing interruptions in production.   "They went from producing at the factory 50 trucks a year to Like 17," Meaney said. North Adams Building Committee Recommends New $61M Greylock

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A new $61 million Greylock School was the choice of the School Building Committee on Thursday.   That recommendation will be taken up by the full School Committee on Oct. 17 in anticipation of a submission of the city's preferred option to the Massachusetts School Building Commission's Facilities Assessment subcommittee.   The committee was tasked with deciding a preferred schematic option out of the three that were proposed: a renovation at Brayton School, addition/renovation at Greylock or a new Greylock.   The writing was on the blackboard as the discussion got underway at Brayton School. North Adams Raises Transfer Station Fees

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — New transfer station fees will see annual permits rise $10 and bags 25 cents a piece.   The City Council gave final approval to the new fees on Tuesday; they were passed to a second reading a month ago but not published in time to be voted at the last meeting.    The fees at the transfer station are based on costs of labor and disposal of waste, which has continued to rise. The city budgeted $136,000 more for waste removal this fiscal year.    Commercial and residential annual permits will increase for the first time in two years, with commercial going from $85 to $100 (and the same for additional vehicles) and resident from $60 to $70

Pumpkin Walk at the Adams Visitors Center

MCLA's Education Department Offers MTEL Preparation Workshops

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) Education Department will offer preparation workshops for those considering taking the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL) on Oct. 28 and 29.    The workshops will be held in an online, synchronous format, with two sessions each day. The first session will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and will cover the test Communication and Literacy, and the second session, held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., will focus on Foundations of Reading.     Passing the MTEL is a requirement for teacher licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. North Adams Council OKs Zoning, Earlier Voting

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The City Council on Tuesday delayed an extensive rewrite of the city's taxi ordinance but moved forward on several other ordinance changes and lengthened the time for voting on election day.    The council approved to start voting in the city election two hours earlier, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.   Council President Lisa Blackmer brought up the change, saying a number of citizens had spoken to her about not being able to vote before going to work. 'Missing' Plaque Honoring Former Mayor Dedicated at North Adams City Hall
