NORTH ADAMS, Mass.—Austin Rachiele went 4-for-4 hitting for the cycle in MCLA's 5-4 MASCAC victory over Westfield State this afternoon. Taconic High graduate Rachiele (4-for-4, two RBIs) led off the bottom of the 1st with his 8th home run of the season to put MCLA (8-17, 2-8) up, 1-0, but Westfield State (10-15, 5-15) tied things up on a Nolan Florence sacrifice fly in the top of the second. A Jayco Pena sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third drove in Rachiele, who had doubled and advance to third on a wild pitch. FLORIDA, Mass. — The Gabriel Abbott Memorial School community raised $808.08 through its Penny Delay Day. Although ir caused a bit of work for teachers, the drive has helped support an important regional agency. "The trick of getting them to bring more money in was we couldn't start teaching until we counted the change," Denise Chesbro, second-grade teacher and assistant principal said. "We made it educational with math games, but the kids loved it." She said the fundraiser was schoolwide and took place on April 3 when students were asked to bring in pennies or other change. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts held a series of events this week to educate students on living sustainably. The goal of the events are to show students that healthy and sustainable living is possible and won't impede on their daily lives, said Lace Anderson, a student in the Green Living Seminar and one of the Earth Week events coordinators. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Berkshire Emporium & Antiques owner Keith Bona has expanded his business with the opening of Noradamus Wilson's Emporium Snack Bar. Bona opened the emporium on Main Street in 2004 and since then has created a collaborative of 40 people who benefit financially from selling their products there. Originally opening with one storefront the emporium has now grown to six along Main and Holden Streets. There is something for everyone with each room drastically different from the next, housing products from local businesses including Eagle Street Music, Passage Concept Store, BPL Sports Cards, and many more.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Jennifer Macksey has taken out papers for a second two-year term as mayor. Macksey, the first woman to be elected to the office, is so far the only one to take out papers when they became available last week. There will also be nine two-year seats on the City Council and three four-year seats each on the North Adams and McCann school committees. Two City Council incumbents have so far drawn papers. Bryan Sapienza will be seeking his second full term. He was elected by the council to fill a vacancy in June 2021 and then won a full term in the November election. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The owner of a local garage is being given a last chance to clean up his location and comply with his special permit. William Gardner of Nite Owl Automotive was told Monday that his special permit could be revoked if he can't keep the number of motor vehicles to 12 at his River Street business. The Planning Board says the problem has been ongoing over the years and has fined Gardner in the past.
