Junior Rangers Program at Mount Greylock

LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — Mount Greylock State Reservation announced the Junior Ranger program for children ages 8-12.

The program is free and is held at Mount Greylock State Reservation, Pittsfield State Forest, Clarksburg State Park, Natural Bridge State Park, Savoy Mountain State Forest, and Mohawk Trail State Forest, on specific Thursdays in July and August from 10:00am to noon. 

Space is limited to fifteen participants. All participants must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  

Work toward earning a Junior Ranger Patch and Certificate by attending programs and completing the activities in the Junior Ranger Activity Guide. Each week,

North County Reacts With Excitement, Cautious Optimism to Hospital News

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — There was one group that refused to give up on the North Adams Regional Hospital for years.    The North County Cares Coalition, made up of residents and former employees at the hospital, advocated at first weekly and, as time went on, every anniversary since 2014 to keep the idea of the hospital alive.    Even when no one seemed to be listening. BHS Makes Plans to Reopen North Adams Regional Hospital

A section of Second North was closed off and the patient rooms mothballed when Berkshire Health Systems took over in 2014.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Turns out North Adams Regional Hospital has been on life support the last nine years.    The hospital closed in 2014 but Berkshire Health Systems is hoping to resuscitate the dormant medical center and reopen up to 25 inpatient beds.   And return the name of "North Adams Regional Hospital."    Darlene Rodowicz, BHS president and CEO, said Wednesday that the health system has been working with Health and Human Services Secretary Kate Walsh and Gov. Museum Set to Open in Lee, Seeks Volunteers

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Dave Wellington scored 31 points Wednesday to lead PhoneBros to a 95-90 win over Cold Hearts in the John Giorgi Summer Basketball League A Division.   Julius Woods scored 30 and grabbed 14 rebounds, and Mike Taylor had a double-double with 17 poitns and 13 boards.   Sean Harrigan led Cold Hearts with 26 points and 10 rebounds.   Shaq Ardrey and Tank Roberson added 23 and 17 points, respectively. Hannon Homer Highlights SteepleCats' Comeback

Man Jumped Into North Adams Flood Control Chute

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A man jumped into the flood control chute on Wednesday afternoon in an effort to avoid police and later found his way out while numerous police officers, firefighters and Department of Public Works crews looked for him.   Lt. Anthony Beverly said a patrol officer stopped a vehicle on Holden Street near Corner Market at about 1:26 p.m. and that after the vehicle stopped, a man jumped out and fled on foot.    The officer saw the man jump over the fence and into the concrete flood control system, a 15- to 18-foot drop. The officer was able to positively identify him and confirmed that he had three active arrest warrants.    Information was

North Adams FireFighters Rescue Kids from Hoosac River

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Firefighters  on Tuesday night rescued two kids swimming in the fast-moving Hoosic River in the area of West Liquors.   Deputy Fire Chief Robert Patenaude said the children went swimming with their mother and had been taken away by the current.   "They were in very severe danger," Patenaude said. "High, fast-moving water, cold water with all of the rain we have had."   Patenaude said two off-duty firefighters who lived in the area, Lt. Kevin Alicea and Mitch Maselli, were first on the scene.   "One of them knew the area well and he knew where the path was to get down to where the kids were," Patenaude said.

North Adams Sees Works on Historic Buildings

Dumpsters are being filled in the back of 19 Eagle Street.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A protective barrier was put up around the front of the Dowlin Block on Monday morning, signaling that some work may be in store for the 1895 structure.    The building was purchased in 2017 by a group including New York developer Veselko Buntic, who is now the principal owner.
