National Honor Society students at McCann Technical School designed and produced 27 placards honoring the 27 local servicemen who died in the Vietnam War. The General Government Committee on Tuesday reviewed a proposed ordinance to create such a structure and continued discussion until the next meeting to allow for some language changes and more research. "When we end this, I think we will have a proposed ordinance that we can forward to the solicitor with a list of some specific questions," said Chair Keith Bona. "That's how I would like that." NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — No Paws Left Behind, the first animal shelter in North Berkshire, is celebrating one year of being open. The shelter opened up last July at the City Yard taking on the legacy of the former Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter of Pittsfield with its former manager, Noelle Howland, taking on the role of executive director. "I've learned a lot. I feel like you're just kind of growing as I started off, and I knew what I was doing, but you hit a lot of curves here and there. PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Pittsfield’s Abigail Geurds was the fastest female finisher in the 4th of July 5K on Friday morning. Geurds covered the 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) course in 17 minutes, 51 seconds to place 26th overall. The race saw 1,141 competitors finish the out-and-back course from Wahconah Street south to the intersection of South Street and West Housatonic and back to Wahconah Park. The top finisher overall was Steve Dowsett of Newburyport, who ran a time of 15:12 to finish three seconds ahead of runner-up Alex White of Dalton.
