NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The City Council Tuesday took the first step toward forming a new Animal Control Commission. Mayor Jennifer Macksey brought the council the request to create a body to help the Police Department "in carrying out their responsibility under [Massachusetts General Law] as well as conduct hearings related to dangerous and/or nuisance dogs." At Tuesday's meeting, Macksey told the council that state officials recommended that the city establish a commission, a proposal endorsed both by the local animal control officer and the interim police chief. "We no longer have an airport manager, so we are going to be on the market for one. BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. — Scott Hunt served his country in the Coast Guard for an amazing 30 years, from 1984 to 2014, retiring as a chief warrant officer. He grew up in Buffalo, N.Y., and did his basic training in Cape May, N.Y. "My future mother-in-law talked me into the Coast Guard and I went in as a telephone tech — next thing I knew, I was jumping out of helicopters," he recalled. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Drury High School class of 1957 donated $2,176.90 to Northern Berkshire EMS (NBEMS) in memory of their classmate, Barbara (Nissen) Wagner, who helped establish the service in 1977. "We appreciate this and when Barb passed away we had money that was donated. We put that money into an investment account," said General Manager John Meaney said. We're going to add this money into that account. Because someday, we hope to raise enough money to expand the service and hopefully, get a bigger building at some point, because we've been outgrowing over the years." NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The cost estimates for the Greylock School project are coming in slightly under budget — including the planned geothermal system. Initial estimates for the alternative heating system came in at $5 million — $3 million over budget.
