Gittens Records Double-Double in MCLA's Season Finale

WORCESTER, Mass. -- Aaron Nkrumah scored 15 points and pulled down 12 rebounds Thursday to lead the Worcester State men's basketball team to a 76-52 win over MCLA in the MASCAC tournament.   Taconic High graduate and MCLA senior Quentin Gittens had 23 points, 13 rebounds and four assists -- all game highs -- in his final collegiate outing.   The Trailblazers finish the season with a record of 14-12.

COHOES, N.Y. — According to an article from the Times Union, WP Strategic Holdings is reported to be purchasing Crane Stationery company that was formerly located in North Adams.   The article, that was published Feb, 20. 2024, stated that the holding company's owner Todd Kletter told the Albany Business Review that "In principle, we have a deal," in regard to the purchase.   The article continued that WP Strategic Holdings already listed Crane as one of its properties on its website, and Kletter told the Albany Business Review that he hoped to have Crane in operation this week.   He expects to close on the deal within 30 to 45 days.   Earlier this

One Injured in Adams House Fire

ADAMS, Mass. -- One person was injured in a house fire on East Jordan Street near the intersection with Hayer Street on Wednesday morning.   Adams Fire Chief John Pansecchi said the owner of the residence was taken to Berkshire Medical Center by Northern Berkshire EMS with burns from the blaze, which was reported at about 11:15 on Wednesday morning.   "He was able to get the dog and three kids out of the house," John Pansecchi said. "We were able to confirm everyone was out of the house."   The cause of the fire was still under investigation. McCann Passes $12.1M Budget for Fiscal 2025

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Northern Berkshire Regional School District is looking at a 5 percent increase for fiscal 2025.    The total budget is $12,092,886, up $593,820 over this year. Superintendent James Brosnan noted that the net school spending for the communities in the regional district has also increased, putting the total over minimum assessment at 1.9 percent.    "I want you to notice at the very bottom it says the budget is gone up $593,000, or it's up by 5.16 percent," Brosnan told the McCann School Committee on Thursday. Update: North Adams Liquor Store to Refund Gift Cards after Closure

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Steeple City Liquors announced via social media on Tuesday how customers holding gift cards can obtain refunds.   Last week, the store, also known as V&V, closed when the downtown plaza it occupies was sold.   Many holders of gift cards took to Facebook to ask how they could be compensated for the now unusable cards.   According to the store's Tuesday Facebook post, gift card holders will need to send an email a photo of the card and the name and address where they want the refund sent to Steeple City's corporate office at giftcards@firsthartford.com.   "We truly appreciate the patience and understanding of everyone involved,"

Clarksburg Select Board OKs Municipal Proposals, Paint Stewardship Bill

CLARKSBURG, Mass. — The Select Board last week endorsed several proposals by the Small Town Administrators of Massachusetts and a paint stewardship program making its way through the Legislature.    STAM is part of the Massachusetts Municipal Association, which shares many of its priorities.    "We're hoping to lobby, the Legislature for legislation promoting the the agenda of small and rural communities," said Town Administrator Carl McKinney, a member of STAM. Massachusetts College Of Liberal Arts (MCLA) Philosophy Professor Paul Nnodim has released his sixth book, "Ubuntu," A Comparative Study of an African Concept, with co-editor Austin Okigbo, associate professor of ethnomusicology, African Studies, and global health at the University of Colorado Boulder.   The book was published by Leuven University Press earlier this month and contains contributions from other scholars.
