NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The heavy rains that have washed out and undermined roads two weeks ago have caused upwards of $6.5 million in local damage. U.S. Rep. Richie Neal arrived in North County late Monday afternoon to survey the damage in the city and neighboring Clarksburg. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Hunter Sarkis scored 28 points and grabbed nine rebounds Sunday to lead Central Radio to an 81-54 win over RicksKicks in the John Giorgi Summer Basketball League B Division. Jude Collins scored 17, and Seth Shepard added 16 in the win. Brian Boudreau led RicksKicks with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Billy Galipeau and Bob Malloy added nine and eight, respectively. Dennis Pregent did two tours in Vietnam with the Marines. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Dennis Pregent served his country in the Marine Corps from 1965 to 1971, separating as a staff sergeant. He grew up in North Adams and quit high school at 17 years of age in the middle of his senior year and enlisted in the Marines. He did his basic training at Parris Island and remembered the intensity of boot camp. "There was a great deal of physical training and drilling," he said. HOLYOKE, Mass. – Mason Wolf hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to complete an 8-7 comeback win for the Valley Blue Sox over the North Adams SteepleCats in New England Collegiate Baseball League action on Saturday night. Valley scored three runs in the ninth after North Adams scored in the top of the inning to build a 7-5 lead. Aiden Stewart went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, and Gehrig Ebel was 2-for-4 with three runs batted in for North Adams. Some residents are asking for signage to not the single lane and possibly better security around the collapse. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A road collapse last year has created a dangerous situation on Walnut Street, say residents. Richard Dassatti and Joseph Labarbera told the Public Safety Committee on Tuesday that in addition to steep drop off the road, the jersey barriers blocking it off create one-lane traffic on the narrow street. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Berkshire Family YMCA preschool teacher Marissia Bibbo-LaFog was selected as the July Teacher of the Month. The Teacher of the Month series runs for the next 10 months in partnership with Berkshire Community College. Bibbo-LaFog has been working in the child-care field for 11 years starting at the age of 15 as a camp counselor. The Swat jumped on top with a four-run first inning that featured an RBI single by Nora Kondel.
