Northern Berkshire Adult Education to Host Open House| 10:48AM / Monday, August 14, 2023 | |
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Northern Berkshire Adult Education (NBAE) will be hosting an Open House event at its new location, the North Adams Armory, on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2023. Community members are encouraged to stop in during 5–7:30pm to talk with Director Annie Pecor, or a teacher/advisor to learn more about adult education offerings for the upcoming year. All are welcome. Services being offered during the academic year include: adult education classes, GED preparation, English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes, and a MassSTEP culinary arts program offered in partnership with McCann Technical School. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Kollin Allard hit nine 3-pointers on his way to a 33-point night on Sunday to lead Northern Berkshire Sports Academy to a 92-77 win over Big Body Beamers in the John Giorgi Summer Basketball League. Brian Dowling and Russell Beauchamp each had a double-double for NBSA. Dowling scored 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Beauchamp finished with 20 and 15. For Big Body Beamers, Anthony Pettengill had 25 poitns and seven boards. Ben Moulton and Darian Vidal finished with 17 and 15 points, respectively. He graduated Lawrence High School then went to college and was drafted with friend and Falmouth native Steve Paltz when he was almost 22. He was sent to basic training in 1970 at Fort Dix, N.J. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — On Wednesday, Aug. 16 Berkshires' Academy for Advanced Musical Studies (BAAMS) faculty members will perform a fundraiser at Mingo's Sports Bar & Grill. The show starts at 6:30 to 8:40 p.m. The lineup will include saxophonist Ada Rovatti, drummer Tony Lewis, pianist and keyboardist Charles Blenzig, bassist Alex Blake, guitarist Spaceman Patterson, and trumpeter Richard Boulger. Their full bios can be found on the BAAMS website.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Using a FY23 Regional Economic Development Projects Grant from the Massachusetts Office of Business Development, 1Berkshire has awarded 52 facade improvement grants through its Best Foot Forward Program. The Best Foot Forward Program, now in its second pilot year, provided small businesses and organizations with a pedestrian-facing facade, storefront, or presence with grants of up to $1000 to support non-construction improvements to their respective business aesthetic. David Moresi, owner of Moresi & Associates, offered a preview of the new Residences at Amity Square ahead of an open house scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 19, from 10 to 4. Tenants are expected to move in in September once final inspections are done.

 CLARKSBURG, Mass. — Town officials don't know how they will address the $1.9 million in damaged roads caused by the July 10 rainstorm. The flooding at Town Hall has been estimated at $51,000 but Town Administrator Carl McKinney told the Select Board on Wednesday that this will be covered by insurance. A new wood-look vinyl floor has been ordered to replace the carpeting that had been on the ground floor, he said, with input from staff and work on installing new wallboard will start the week after next.
