MCLA to Host Two Information Sessions for Graduate Programs

NORTH ADAMS, Mass.— MCLA's Division of Graduate & Continuing Education (DGCE) will host two information sessions for those interested in pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Master of Education (MEd). The information sessions will be available in person and online in North Adams this July and August.   The community is invited to the July 18 information session at 5 p.m. on campus in North Adams or remotely on August 7 at 5 p.m. The deadline for a graduate admission application is August 1 for the Fall 2024 semester.   Prospective students can meet with faculty and staff to learn about graduate education in MCLA's unique and innovative programs

Big Y Investigates Conn. Skimmer Incident

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Big Y supermarket discovered skimmers in two of its Connecticut stores last month.    In a press release on Monday, the grocery chain said an unknown individual attached a skimming device to one single terminal in each of its Naugatuck and Plainville locations. The skimmers were found on June 29.   Skimmers are devices that are illegally installed over or inside card readers at places like convenience stores, fuel pumps and ATMs to steal information off the cards. The FBI estimates that skimming costs consumers and financial institutions more than $1 billion a year.    "We are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this

While the national debate about the top of the Democratic ticket in November is sucking so much oxygen out of our political room, it is easy to forget that there is more than one way to make sure the MAGA agenda does not have a chance to spread its intolerance and injustice across our great nation.

If we can make sure that we elect Democratic majorities to our Congress and our state legislatures, then Project 2025 priorities such as gutting our public education system, destroying our commitment to averting a climate catastrophe, privatizing Social Security and Medicare, appointing ideologues to the Supreme Court, and abandoning our important international defense

Artists Needed To Beautify North Adams Electrical Boxes

NORTH ADAMS, Mass.— This Summer, North Adams' Cultural District Committee, Public Arts Commission, City Councilor Andrew Fitch, and Mayor Jennifer Macksey have approved, funded, and produced a new public art project for downtown North Adams.    In an effort to continue the beautification of the city, ten electrical boxes at downtown intersections have been chosen to showcase a new collection of artwork from local artists. Halfmoon, N.Y. Edges Greylock in Extra Innings in Tourney Finale

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The Halfmoon Aftershock 14-and-under travel softball team liked its time in the Steeple City so much, it decided to extend its visit.   It liked North Adams even more after driving home with a first-place trophy.   Halfmoon rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh and scored in the bottom of the eighth to take a 7-6 win over the Greylock Thunder in the title game of the Summer Storm Tournament on Sunday afternoon.   Olivia Johnson went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, including a sacrifice fly to tie the game in the seventh inning, and made a number of stellar plays in the field to lead the way for the visitors from New York’s Capital

North Adams Plans $350,000 Restoration of Library Belvedere

Trustees and Friends of the Library tour the structure in 2017.
