North Adams Glamping Resort Switches to Wellness With Special Permit

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — It took several attempts, but the Planning Board on Monday approved a new special permit for a camping resort on Notch Road.   Benjamin Crespi has been before the Planning Board several times after taking on the glamping proposal first broached by the original developer back in 2019. The project's hit a number of roadblocks, not the least being the opposition by neighbors on the thinly settled road which resulted in litigation.   Crespi, operating as 196 Marine LLC, said the last iteration of the resort had been scrapped and he was

Dozens Compete in Fall Foliage 5K

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Joshua Miller Sunday won the annual Fall Foliage 5K, covering the course in just more than 21 minutes.   Miller hit the finish line in 21:05, setting a mile pace of 6:47, to win in a field of 35 finishers.   Second place went to North Adams’ Liv Dalton, who was the fastest female finisher with a time of 22:41.   Twenty men and 15 women competed in the race, part of the city’s Fall Foliage Festival. The race finished on Main Street just prior to the 69th Fall Foliage Parade.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Mayor Jennifer Macksey proclaimed October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in the city on Tuesday at the start of Elizabeth Freeman Center's Rise Together walk.

The annual fundraiser and awareness event was held in six communities across the county beginning Sept. 16 in Pittsfield.

Local officials and community members marched down Main Street to First Congregational Church and back to City Hall to stand against gender-based violence.

The center's goal is to reach $150,000; as of Friday afternoon, the center has raised more than

North Adams Launches Veterans Banner Program

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Veterans Services Department is seeking city veterans, both living and deceased, to honor on large banners displayed throughout the downtown area.   "Veterans of the past have paved the way for all of us now," Veterans Agent Kurtis Durocher said. "... I know, from a veteran's perspective, we don't necessarily relay that we want to be honored. But deep down, every veteran wants to be. To know that their service was not done for nothing. It is nice for families to be able to gloat about their veterans. They want to honor that legacy."   The program proposes to install 30-by-60-inch banners throughout the downtown area.

Savoy Town Meeting Unanimously Backs McCann Tech Project

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — There's a young pup looking for a new family to play with.   iBerkshire's Companion Corner is a weekly series spotlighting an animal in our local shelters that is ready to find a home.   Onyx is a year-old, male American bulldog mix at No Paws Left Behind.   Kennel assistant Rileigh Norcross introduced us to Onyx.   "He's very goofy. He likes to play a lot. Sometimes he's a little too intense.
