Zebra Mussel eDNA Detection in Onota Lake

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Zebra mussel eDNA has been detected at Onota Lake by the Commonwealth's Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR).    This discovery was made as part of regular monitoring of the lake for these types of invasive species. This detection only impacts boating operations at the lake and has no impact to other recreational uses of the lake.   Zebra mussels are invasive freshwater mollusks that present a variety of ecological, recreational, and economic concerns. In 2009, zebra mussels were detected in Laurel Lake and its outflow in the Housatonic River in Lee/Lenox. Since that time, the City of Pittsfield has actively worked with DCR to

MCLA Men's Hockey Gets Home Win

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Landry Laird made 32 saves Tuesday to backstop the MCLA men's hockey team to a 5-1 win over Western New England.   Sean Schifferl, Luke Rhoss and Addam Brunner each had a goal and an assist for the Trailblazers (2-4-1), who go to Rutland, Vt., to play Castleton State on Friday.   Women's Hockey HARRISVILLE, R.I. -- Grace Wiggett scored early in the third period to give Nicholls a 2-1 win over MCLA.   Abby Pomajba scored a power play goal for the Trailblazers (2-7) who travel to play New England College on Dec. 1.

City Woman Wins Hometown Holidays Gift Basket

Jonathan Secor had some help in pulling the winning ticket. Congrats to Janet O'Neill of North Adams who won the big Hometown Holidays gift basket on Thursday. O'Neill won some $1,300 worth of gift certificates and merchandise.

The drawing could be entered by spending $50 downtown during the Thursday night Hometown Holiday events. Jonathan Secor of MCLA Gallery 51 said 62 people had entered the contest (including the editor of iBerkshires &mdash amazing how much cat toys cost nowadays).
