Thunderstorms to Close out the Week

With warmer temperatures and high humidity this weekend, expect some thunderstorms.

Thursday, June 22 should be mostly pleasant with a high of 77. Sunshine will give way to clouds and some possible showers this afternoon, according to Accuweather.

Expect similar temperatures Friday but with more clouds. A light shower can be expected in the afternoon. Showers will continue on and off throughout the night. There is a chance scattered thunderstorms.

On Saturday, June 24 you can anticipate showers and a thunderstorm in the morning becoming more widespread as the day continues, according to the Weather Channel. The same can be expected Sunday so batten down the hatches.

MCLA Receives $1M from the Executive Office of Health and Human Services

NORTH ADAMS, Mass.—The Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS) has awarded the Massachusetts College Of Liberal Arts (MCLA) $1M to fund the College's new Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) program.    The grant will support the first two years of the program by supplementing its curriculum development and funding the cost of a simulation lab coordinator; nursing journals, textbooks, and testing software; and Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) fees.      MCLA's BSN program received approval from the Board of Registration in Nursing in January 2023 and approval from the Board of Higher Education in March 2023. Stratton, OPI Win Barn-Burner in Giorgi League

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Hunter Stratton scored 33 points Wednesday to lead OPI to a 107-101 win over Northern Berkshire Sports Academy in the John Giorgi Summer Basketball League.   Stratton also collected nine rebounds in the A Division win.   Scott McGuire scored 25 points, and Isaiah Powell just missed a double-double with 24 points and nine boards. Kyle Callanan added 18 points in the win.   For NBSA, Chris Brown tied for game-high honors with 33 points. Garcia went 3-for-5 with a double and a pair of RBIs Wednesday to lead the Valley Blue Sox to a 7-2 win over the North Adams SteepleCats.   Three Holyoke pitchers combined on a three-hitter. Dalton Finance Approves Interdepartmental Transfers

DALTON, Mass. — The Finance Committee approved various interdepartmental transfers during its meeting last Wednesday.    It approved a transfer of $4,000 from the reserve fund to the Landfill Closure Monitoring account.    The original quote for the well repair did not include the cost of prevailing wages that the town is required to pay.    The engineer believed that the scope of the project did not require prevailing wage but after consulting town counsel, confirmed that it applies for well construction.    "They had supplied us with a quote in good faith and that was fine with me. BArT Announces Upcoming Enrollment Deadline

ADAMS, Mass. – Berkshire Arts and Technology (BArT) Charter Public School is currently accepting applications for students in grades 6 through 10 for the 2022-2023 school year.

North Adams School Building Committee Nixes New Brayton Option

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — One option for the proposed school project is now off the table.    The School Building Committee on Tuesday voted to eliminate the idea of a new building for Brayton Elementary School. It also discussed the process for deciding the grade structure for the project.   The committee had been presented with four building options back in April: an addition/renovation or new build at Brayton or Greylock.    "We are interested in focusing the options down to three, which we then can develop further and receive more detailed cost estimates relative to those options prior to selecting the preferred option," said Jesse Saylor of TSKP

County Youth Soccer League Wraps Up Spring Season

LENOX, Mass. -- Three Berkshire County Youth Soccer League teams have qualified for the Massachusettts Tournament of Champions this weekend in Lancaster.   Two girls teams and one boys team are advancing to the state tourney based on their performance throughout the spring: the 7th- and 8th-grade Lenox Gold girls, the 5th- and 6th-grade North Adams Breakers girls and the 5th- and 6th-grade Williamstown Vipers boys.   The BCYSL held its season-ending tournament on Saturday at Lenox Memorial Middle and High School, with championships decided in seven different groups.   Winners included:   Boys 5/6 B-Cup - Williamstown 1, Lenox 1 (Williamstown wins on penalty kicks). North Adams' State Road Gets New Paving This Week

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The road work — and traffic jams — on State Road will be over by next week.    Warner Bros. Construction will begin paving Route 2 over a four-day period so motorists should be aware that delays and backups are likely.    Work began on this section of the state highway between the Sacco Bridge and the Williamstown line about two weeks ago. The roadway was milled and will be paved as part of a $5.8 million state project that includes sections of Route 2 over Florida Mountain. Mohawk State Park Closed for Camping This Year

CHARLEMONT, Mass. — The campground at Mohawk Trail State Forest will be closed for the summer season because of a water main break.    Campers who had reservations for the summer season have been informed of the closure and have been fully refunded.   The campground offers 47 wooded sites and three accessible cabins that sleep three to five people.    The work at Mohawk is an $800,000 investment that includes installing, connecting and testing a new well and waterlines, repaving the road on the property, replacing building roofs, and making repairs to the Civilian Conservation Corps-era cabins.    "Mohawk is one of a
