 NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Residents who have been hit with storm damage twice in the last five weeks told the City Council Tuesday that drainage problems in their neighborhood need a long-term solution. "Five weeks ago, I was left with a 2 foot ditch against my foundation," Frederick Street resident Leigh Uqdah told the council. "DPW helped me, fortunately. But this last storm washed it away. "If another storm comes and it's not fixed, it could potentially cause my house to tip over. The city of North Adams needs to prioritize how we manage severe storms and runoff."  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The La Festa Baseball Exchange returns to Joe Wolfe Field on Saturday and Sunday, July 22 and 23. The 32nd edition of the exchange again will give youth baseball players from North County a chance to compete against their peers from Boston's North End. The North End Dodgers will welcome the Berkshire County players and their families for games in August. Since its inception, the La Festa Exchange has featured 124 games on both ends of the commonwealth involving more than 1,000 youngsters.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Sammy Moorman had a double-double Tuesday to lead the Drury High basketball team to a 76-29 win over McCann Tech in the B Division of the John Giorgi Summer Basketball League. Moorman scored 20 points and pulled down 17 rebounds in the win. Jorge Bond hit seven 3-pointers on the way to a 25-point night. Myles Beauchamp and Donte Dillard each scored 10. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Planning Board approved McCann Technical School's special permit request to build a new structure to house its incoming HVAC program. With the approval, Superintendent James Brosnan told the Planning Board Monday that he hopes to be able to break ground in August. "Everyone is busy, everyone is underfunded, everyone is understaffed, but I think we have a good project," he said. "I think we have done our homework, and the package we have going out is a good one. And the project isn't overwhelming." NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — North Adams Housing Authority (NAHA) Executive Director Jennifer Hohn said various improvements have been made to enhance building security. To address security concerns, Hohn said they have added more hours to security detail as well as added an entry monitoring desk at the front of Ashland Park. "[They] monitor who's coming in and out of the building when they are on duty along with constantly walking the halls etc.," Hohn said.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Although the entire county is experiencing flooding, North County seems to have been hit the hardest. In North Adams a sinkhole on State Street at the bottom of Morgan Ave has closed down a portion of the driving lane. A police officer is on-site directing traffic. Brooklyn Street is completely closed off with the roadway caving in along the side of the road. Church street, Houghton Street, and West Shaft Road, among others have also had significant flooding and damage. MONTPELIER, Vt. — Powerful storms are expected to cause dangerous flash flooding overnight Sunday and into Monday. While Central Vermont in particular could experience catastrophic flooding, the entire state and the Western Massachusetts are in danger of flooding and washouts. Gov. Phil Scott declared a state of emergency Sunday afternoon and the state's emergency operations system has been activated because of the "likelihood of widespread damage and posing a threat to property and public safety in Vermont."
