Thunder, ACS Swat Reach 12-Year-Old County Final

DALTON, Mass. -- Avery Lane and Gianna Witek Monday combined on a two-hitter to send the Greylock Thunder Black to the championship game of the Berkshire County Fast Pitch Softball League 12-and-under division.   The Thunder beat Dalton, 8-1, at Chamberlain Park to earn a date against Adams-Cheshire-Savoy Swat, an 18-17 winner over the Berkshire Force Black on Monday in Adams.   The Thunder and ACS will play on Tuesady at 5:45 at Albert Reid Field for the county's summer championship.   Monday's semi-final in Dalton was dominated by pitching.   Dalton's Kaylee Prew struck out 12 in a losing cause.   Lane and Witek struck out 16 between them in the

TROY, N.Y. – Lucas Hamilton struck out four and scattered seven hits in a 12-0, six-inning win for the Berkshire Bananas 14-and-under travel baseball team in AA2 division final of the Eastern New York Travel Baseball Last Man Standing tournament at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.   Hamilton also went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs to help his cause in the title game against the Cohoes Blackhawks 13U Red.   Brennan Vallieres led the Bananas’ offense, going 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and a pair of runs batted in.   Everett Bayliss also doubled in a 10-hit attack. Roosa Leads Field of 100s at High Lawn Farm

LEE, Mass. -- Lee's Maguire Roosa and Glendale's Morgan Windram-Geddes were the top finishers Sunday at the High Lawn Farm Keep Moo’ving 5K.   The event was held to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the family-owned dairy farm and as a benefit for Berkshire Bounty, a food rescue organization that serves emergency food distribution programs county-wide.   Roosa hit the finish line in 19 minutes, 30.45 seconds, a 6:16 mile pace, to edge runner-up Pat McNaughton (19:31.87) by just more than a second.   Windram-Geddes was the top female finisher and sixth-place finisher overall, covering the out-and-back course around the farm property in 20:21.31.   The

SteepleCats Sweep Danbury in Home Finale

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – It has been a long summer for the North Adams SteepleCats and their fans.   But the ‘Cats Friday night gave those fans a fond memory in the home finale, sweeping the Danbury Westerners at Joe Wolfe Field by scores of 8-2 and 2-0.   DM Jefferson homered and drove in a pair of runs in the first game, when Dominick Marcoccio earned the win on the mound.   Marcoccio struck out eight and allowed no runs in 5 and two-thirds innings of work.   In the nightcap, Dan Galef scattered seven hits in six innings to get the win. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – OPI came from behind in the second half to hand PhoneBros a 98-96 loss on Wednesday night in the John Giorgi Summer Basketball League A Division.   Kyle Callanan scored 40 points, including 24 on 3-pointers, to lead OPI, which got 31 points and 14 rebounds from Scott McGuire.   PhoneBros was led by Dave Wellington with 32 points – 18 on six 3s.
