NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Boston Celtics gave gold to Colegrove Park Elementary School on Friday for scoring in the top 10 schools for attendance statewide. The school saw its chronic absenteeism numbers drop by 11 percent last year. Tim Connor, assistant director for the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's west and central district, arrived with a gold basketball signed by the champion team to reward the students for their achievement. Mayor Jennifer Macksey and Facilities Director Robert Flaherty on Wednesday pull up the carpeting in the first-floor classroom at Brayton recently treated for mildew. Classes start on Thursday. : per Superintendent Barbara Malkad via Facebook, "Today [Aug. 28] we removed all items from the room where the mildew on the equipment was found. The walls were inspected - no mold or mildew was found. The rug was pulled up - no mold was found on the floor underneath or the underside of the carpeting. READSBORO, Vt. — A missing Readsboro man was found inside his car, down an embankment in Whitingham. Harold Lavanway, 73, was reported missing by family on Sunday. He was last seen on Friday at approximately 10 p.m. by a neighbor traveling south toward the Monroe Bridge area in Massachusetts. His gray 2011 Honda Civic was discovered off Tunnel Street in Whitingham early Monday morning and State Police were notified. They confirmed that Lavanway was in the vehicle and deceased. Andrew Fitch took the waters on Tuesday for his third annual long-distance summer vacation adventure and fundraiser. Last year, he walked 75 miles over five days between North Canaan, Conn., and Stamford, Vt.. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Two years ago Temescal Wellness cut the ribbon on a $21 million cannabis cultivation facility on Curran Highway with much fanfare. Now the property owners are trying to evict the business for nonpayment of rent. The Berkshire Eagle on Thursday reported the lawsuit filed in Berkshire Superior Court last month by IIP-MA 7 LLC, limited liability company based in California. The company bought the former Crane Stationery plant for $3.1 million in May 2021 and entered into a 20-year leasing agreement with Temescal a month later.
