Halfmoon, N.Y. Edges Greylock in Extra Innings in Tourney Finale

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The Halfmoon Aftershock 14-and-under travel softball team liked its time in the Steeple City so much, it decided to extend its visit.   It liked North Adams even more after driving home with a first-place trophy.   Halfmoon rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh and scored in the bottom of the eighth to take a 7-6 win over the Greylock Thunder in the title game of the Summer Storm Tournament on Sunday afternoon.   Olivia Johnson went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, including a sacrifice fly to tie the game in the seventh inning, and made a number of stellar plays in the field to lead the way for the visitors from New York’s Capital

North Adams Plans $350,000 Restoration of Library Belvedere

Trustees and Friends of the Library tour the structure in 2017. The belvedere offers a dramatic view of the city and its surrounding mountains but has not been open to the public.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The city has received a $75,000 grant toward the repair and restoration of the public library's belvedere.    Mayor Jennifer Macksey told the City Council on Tuesday that this funding comes from the Massachusetts Preservation Commission.   "This money in conjunction with the bequest of Gail Carridi will be used to repare the belvedere, estimated cost of the project is about $350,000," she said. Greylock 14U Softball Team Tops Dalton

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The Greylock Thunder 14-and-under travel softball team Saturday ended pool play in its Summer Storm Tournament just like it began pool play on Friday: with a win over Berkshire County rival.   Genevieve Lagess went 2-for-2 with a pair of triples and scored three times, and the Thunder overcame an early deficit to take a 13-9 win over Dalton in the pool play finale on Francis Millard Field.   On Sunday morning, the eight teams in the tournament will be seeded for the 10 a.m. quarter-final round.   The four survivors move on to a pair of 1:30 p.m. semi-finals with the title game scheduled for about 3:30 p.m.   The Thunder, which beat the

Large Scale Power Outage Impacting North County

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — National Grid are attending to a substation after a large scale power outage through Northern Berkshire County.

According to National Grid, Nearly 3,000 customers have been impacted in North Adams and Clarksburg and over 4,000 have been impacted in Williamstown and Hancock on Friday.

Power went out around 11 am. In North Adams outages have been reported on Veazie Street, River Street, Mass Ave., Bracewll Ave, and State Road.

In North Adams Police are directing traffic where traffic lights are out.

National Grid estimates that power will be restored by between 1 and 2 pm.

Williamstown and North Adams Police took to social media asking residents to avoid calling

KEENE, N.H. – Ripken Reese went 3-for-5 Wednesday to lead the Swamp Bats to a 9-6 win over the North Adams SteepleCats in the New England Collegiate Baseball League.   Monument Mountain grad Jayder Raifstanger, Mount Greylock’s Derek Paris and Taconic’s Sam Sherman each had a hit for North Adams.   The SteepleCats (12-15) are home on Friday for a doulbe-header against Newport, R.I.

Community Contra Dance

NORTH ADAMS — On Saturday, July 13 there will be a community contra dance.   North Berkshire Community Dance will hold its monthly contra dance with calling by Fern Bradley, and live music provided by local musicians.   All are welcome. North Adams Council Sets Vote on New School Borrowing

North Adams Planners OK 10 Short-Term Rentals

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Planning Board approved 10 special permits for short-term rentals during a brief meeting on Monday night.    The City Council last year had set fees and permitting regulations for short-term rentals in the city after more than four years of debate.    Special permits are required for rentals in buildings in which the owners do not live, according to the ordinance. Inspection fees for non-owner are $350, and the annual fee is also $350.   The Planning Board has already approved several special permits but Monday night had the highest number so far.
