SteepleCats Split Double-Header at HomeiBerkshires.com Sports, 10:02PM / Wednesday, July 09, 2025 | | NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Nelphie Lopez hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh Wednesday to give the North Adams SteepleCats a 2-1 win over Sanford, Maine, in the first game of a double-header at Joe Wolfe Field. Pittsfield's Nick Guachione went 2-for-3 and scored a run in the win, which extended North Adams' winning streak to seven games. Sanford came back to earn an 8-5 win and a double-header split in the nightcap. In Game 1, A.J. North Adams Overpass Study Holding Community Event04:56PM / Wednesday, July 09, 2025 | | NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The North Adams Route 2 Overpass Study will host its third community engagement event on Thursday, July 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. This event, referred to as a Community Visioning Session, will take place in person under the tent in Courtyard A on the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art campus. The study is funded through a federal grant under the Reconnecting Communities Pilot Project. It has been looking at options to repair, replace or restore the deteriorating Veterans Memorial Bridge that carries Route 2 over the Hoosac River.  ADAMS, Mass. — The Berkshires' Academy for Advanced Musical Studies (BAAMS) Faculty Band is scheduled to perform a benefit concert on Wednesday, July 16, at Studio 9, located at The Porches' Inn. The concert aims to help offset the costs associated with the week-long Summer Jazz Band Day Camp. The performance also marks the five-year anniversary of BAAMS, a nonprofit organization. The concert is set to begin at 7 p.m. The faculty band, led by trumpeter Richard Boulger, will feature saxophonist Ron Blake, guitarist Rodney Jones, bassist Alex Blake, pianist Dario Boente, percussionist Mino Cinelu, and drummer Kenwood Dennard. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Thomas Bernard has stepped down from leading Berkshire United Way and says he is excited to explore the next chapter of his professional journey. On Tuesday, Board Chair Krystle Blake confirmed that he resigned as president and CEO to pursue other opportunities. Bernard was hired in January 2022 after serving as mayor of his hometown, North Adams. The city has embarked on a recodification process that over the next two years will complete a review to find contradictory ordinances and regulations and outdated materials and language, ensure new ordinances have been properly recorded, and make the code cleaner and more transparent. The total cost of the work will be $19,540 and is being undertaken by vendor General Code, which has maintained the city's code for 40 years. The last time the code was updated was 61 years in 1964.
