 NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Two new firefighters were sworn in on Tuesday night during City Council Jeffrey Rodrigues and Jeffrey Tykot graduated Jan. 26 from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy in Springfield having completed the 50-day Career Recruit Firefighting Training Program. Mayor Jennifer Macksey introduced the firefighters, noting Rodrigues, of Dorchester, is a veteran of the Army Reserve and holds a bachelor of arts with a concentration in criminal justice from the University of Massachusetts at Boston. Tykot, of Williamstown, was a member of the New Ashford Fire Department and is a licensed emergency medical technician with Northern Berkshire EMS. He 0 Comments

 NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Steeple City Liquors, also known as V&V, closed abruptly Monday night two weeks after the plaza it's in was sold. The store, which was promoting its products over the weekend for Super Bowl Sunday, made the announcement on Facebook on Tuesday morning and a sign on the door stated that it was "closed for good." "The staff would like to thank each and every patron for the ever lasting memories that were created," read the post.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Berkshire Running Foundation has released the 2024 Race Calendar for the local nonprofit with several new events scheduled throughout the county. Following its first official year operating as a nonprofit entity in 2023, the 501c3 organization, which has a mission of advancing and expanding on the positive impact the running community has on the neighborhoods we live, produced, and directed eight events in 2023. The Foundation donated just more than $48,000 to local nonprofit entities which benefit from each event. Gittens averaged 30.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, four assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.5 blocks in a 2-0 week for the Trailblazers.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — This Valentine's Day, and throughout the month of February, the First Congregational Church North Adams (FCCNA) invites Berkshire County residents and friends to contribute to its "Share the Love" challenge. For every dollar received, FCCNA will donate 50 cents to help three local institutions—Berkshire Food Project, Louison House, and the Al Nelson Friendship Center Food Pantry. All proceeds from the campaign will be split evenly among the three recipient organizations. In February 2022, FCCNA raised $5,100 for its challenge; the next year, it raised $5,550. The Teacher of the Month series runs for the next three months in partnership with Berkshire Community College. Quinto has spent her entire career working at Clarksburg School. ADAMS, Mass. — A lack of snow has caused the state Department of Conservation to close snowmobile trails through the state forest system in Western Mass. DCR sent notice of Friday effective immediately that the trails are closed on Mount Greylock and at Monroe, Savoy Mountain , Mohawk Trail, Windsor and Dubuque (Hawley) state forests. Snowpack is below normal for the region, according to the National Weather Service, with the eastern slopes of the Berkshires having between 8 and 12 inches at the higher terrain.
